Consultation:
The representative was extremely pleasant and professional to work with.  He did not start our conversation with the "ok, so here's what you need" pitch.  Simply put, he listened to what I had to say.  He asked questions such as "what type of security and monitoring would you like?  What areas of the home are critical to monitor?  How would you like to interface with the system?"  While he did make configuration suggestions, he left it to me to determine how many and exactly where each sensor would be placed.  The price quote and contract were received a few days later (after the weekend) and I was very pleased with the pricing for the equipment purchase, installation, and monthly monitoring fee.  It is important to note that they sold me the equipment, not leased.  It is now part of my home and I have the value of it.  Other companies offer much lower install fees, but this "start up" cost may not include equipment ownership and may come with higher monthly fees.  Plus, if we should part ways with American Alarm as a monitoring service for any future reason, the equipment still works as advertised.

Installation:
The technicians took their time to do it right and all components look like they were placed with care.  The system components that they used seem very high quality (i.e. full text display on the keypads, mostly wireless, aesthetically minimal).  All in all, we have keypads on multiple floors, door and window sensors (most of them wireless), motion sensors, and remotes for arming/disarming without the keypads.  We can also monitor the system and control it from any internet connection in the world or a smart phone app. 
Extra points could have been earned during installation if the technicians cleaned as they went (leaves tracked in, drywall/plaster dust from drilling).  At one point there was some ambiguity as to when they would arrive on the second day - cured with a simple phone call.  Professionalism points would have been higher if the techs were more clean.  I thought they were smoking in the house, but it was simply residual smoke smell from their clothing.  It goes away about as fast as they do, but it's not pleasant during the installation day(s). 
Note that we brought these concerns to the attention of the management and they were absolutely receptive to professional criticism.  I put a lot of stock in that, especially when they comp the first month's service charge in good faith.

I would recommend this company to anyone, and hope that they cultivate a cleaner installation policy.  It would make them an "A+" company.  For now, they're just "A".
