About us
Welcome to West Side Movers! My name is Matt Fiore and I am the owner of my family’s multi-generation moving and storage company. Our mission is to be the best NYC mover – known for our top quality moving services and boutique level of attention to detail. Many of our clients are repeat customers, moved with us before, or have been referred by friends and family. We often move different generations within the same family: parents, adult children and their grandchildren. We are located on The Upper West Side yet we service all neighborhoods in NYC including long distance from NYC to anywhere within the United States. Our team consists of experienced movers who work together regularly throughout the year.

We'd used them a few times before to move stuff into and out of storage. They were always friendly, professional, and efficient, so there wasn't any doubt we'd use them for our move to Philadelphia.
To say they exceeded our expectations is to put it mildly. The job was for packing and shipping, and our apartment was overstuffed with items accumulated over twenty years of living there. The supervisor, Ian, demonstrated a personal investment in the project that stunned us, all the way down to spending four days before the actual move date helping us with pre-packing to be sure we were ready when move day arrived.
The entire team was friendly and professional. It should be noted that Ian is a rather intense individual -- he's not only committed to getting the job done, but making sure you adhere to that commitment as well -- but never less than professional. He handled everything with our old building's management well, and dealt with a potential problem with getting enough time in our new building's elevator without any kind of friction. All-in-all, during a very stressful time in our lives, it was a joy working with him.
The move-in was fast and as stress-free as this kind of thing could be. When we warned Ian that a brace had fallen off our bed a few years ago and they had to be careful in transporting it, he not only took care of it without difficulty, but also had one of his team reattach the brace once the bed was moved in.
Over and over, West Side has proven their skill and worth. This difficult move was the icing on the cake, and we consider ourselves fortunate to have worked with them. If there was an A+ rating, we would not hesitate to give it.

It is unfortunate that one of the many fragile items we moved accidentally broke, and subsequently left you with a terrible impression of our service. Our standard practice is two wrap furniture carefully with blankets and cardboard, as well as secure fragile items in heavy duty boxes with proper packing materials. It is our company policy to handle damages expeditiously in the rare case they occur.The option you had selected was to take a policy with a 3rd party insurance company who specialized in coverage for individual high value items. At no point during your move into storage, during storage, or during your move out of storage were concerns of missing items or damages brought to our attention. In fact, all Bill of Lading’s and Inventory Sheets were signed upon final delivery indicating items were received, and in proper condition. Our movers take great care in packing and handling fragile items to ensure damages are not incurred. And, we do offer different levels of insurance to cover legitimate claims. The only other negative in an otherwise excellent experience was the driver stating up front that they expected--even required--a 20% tip. I always tip movers, although not usually 20%. I have never been told by anyone that a tip is required. I did tip them at the end of the job, about 15%, which is what I usually do.

They were right on time and the crew couldn't have been nicer or more professional.
They are true experts in packing and don't mess around.
I had used them before to close my parents' apartment and thought they were wonderful.

"Dear Member; I just read your mixed review that was posted today about your experience of a job we did for you seven months ago.I wish you had given us this feedback sooner since providing quality service is of the utmost importance to me. This is a small family owned and operated moving company started by my late husband in 1972. I now run the company with my son. Anyway, thank you for acknowledging that we are a 'reliable business with an real office with real people answering the phone.'. I looked into this situation and spoke to your crew chief. Since seven months had elapsed he only vaguely remembered the specifics of the job. He did recall the issue with the ramp which was a miscommunication on our part, as the truck assigned to your job did not have one. We ultimately took hours off the job because it took time to secure a ramp. I understand that moving and having a renovation is very stressful and know that it would have helped, had your move gone seamlessly. I apologized that we may have added to the stress. "Dear Member Thank you for rating us 'A' for Price, Responsiveness and Punctuality and saying that we did do a good job and and all your items arrived in your new home without damage. I am so sorry that you were told what to tip by the foreman, as this is against company policy. To clarify, our policy regarding tipping is that-- it is appreciated but not mandatory--it is up to the customer's discretion. Our movers have been instructed to only discuss tips if the customer asks about it. I can fully understand how uncomfortable this discussion may have been. I am sorry that I am just being made aware of your experience five months after the fact. I will speak to the foreman to make sure this never happens again. He happens to be a very excellent mover--but this is unacceptable. My sincere apologies. Unfortunately, I received a quote from the office of $700, but when it came time to settle the bill at the end of the move, another $400 was tacked onto the price that had been quoted. On top of that, the lead mover told me that a 20% gratuity was expected. I didn't have the cash and I didn't have enough in checking to cover it all, so it had to go on my credit card.
I've read about other movers doing this kind of thing, but I expected to pay the amount I was quoted since this company was highly rated on Angie's List. All-in-all, it was a very professional crew, but you should expect to see more dollars added to your total.
There was a question on Angie's List for this evaluation that said, "Would you use this provider again?" AL did not give a "maybe" response as a choice, so I said "Yes." However, my actual answer is only maybe. I will probably do my own move next time with a rental truck.

It is customary to show appreciation when a job is well done. Industry standard is usually 15% to 20% of the labor. Whatever you decide to give is given to the crew chief, who distributes the amount equally among the team. We instruct our men only to mention tips if asked. I will review that policy with my staff.
