I have had several contacts with these people, all of them were positive. I am especially appreciative of this since, after my husband passed away, the predators were coming at me from all directions.  These people treated me fairly on several occasions:
1. My husband passed away in April and the car was not  used for a couple of months. When I tried to start the car, the battery was dead.  I called a number of places in the neighborhood, none of whom would agree to come to the garage and give me a jump start.  In fact, the staff in my own building made some excuse about not having a charger.  This building staff seemed to think I was too stupid to realize that one only needed jumper cables. I found the card of United Auto Repair among my husband's effects and called them.  After all the other refusals to help me, They agreed to come to my garage and jump start the battery.  The charge:  $25.
2.  The car battery died again.  When I called the mechanics who had installed it, I was advised it was 5 years old and needed to be replaced.  I called United again to give me a new battery.  I also asked for an oil change since the car had not been driven in a while.  The bill was under $200.  This is a reasonable amount of money for Manhattan.
3.  I kept having problems with the new battery.  In part, this was because I hadn't started driving again.  But also, I later discovered that Subaru has parking lights which I didn't notice I had left on.  But I didn't know this when I took the car back.  They  rechecked the electrical systems and changed the battery.  They also encouraged me to start driving the car again. The charge: nothing.
4.  The last contact I had was an inspection on 9/23/15 for which I was charged $37.
As a widow who is not thinking straight, and as a woman in general, I am aware that many mechanics would really try to take advantage of me.  But I feel these United did good work and treated me very fairly.  I am grateful for that.

So far it appears to have solved our car problem. I want to add that they dealt with our car right before Christmas and with a good attitude.

When I go in to see him, it is always a good deal. They always does the work that needs to be done and nothing more. Great service. I would highly recommend them to others. I go to the m for inspections, tune-ups and general auto repair.

Very pleased. They tested for electrical problems but couldn't find any, so they didn't charge me (except for the oil change). The Acura dealer would probably have charged for the labor. They suggested that the problem was in my USB adapter, which turned out to be true (I replaced it and the new one works fine).
United Auto Repair is an and quot;old schooland quot; garage. No lounge with leather sofas and a TV, but you' dealing with people who do the actual work, and with pride. You aren't dealing with and quot;service managersand quot; who schmooze with you and offer you bad coffee while they tell you how much extra work will be necessary and how much they will be charging you. For anything that does not absolutely require taking the car to the dealer, United has my business from now on.

I called about 4:30 PM. They gave a hypothesis of what was wrong, said they could fix it that afternoon if I brought it in then. I did and they fixed it within 45 mintes charged me $50 for labor. It seems to be fine.

They are professional and reliable. They give advice and recommendations for free. They aren't social or anything, but they answer all of your questions. They do really good work.

The owner is a bit gruff, but I've always come away from the shop with a good feeling -- that he knows what he's doing and is charging a fair price. What a convenient location, too, for a Manhattanite. It's not easy owning a car in NYC, but having a good mechanic like United nearby helps so much.

They were low key, honest, and on time. They were helpful and fixed things properly and inexpensively.

My car's service engine soon light came on while on a long drive and stalled out once, so I decided to bring it in for service. I called on a Thursday and and was able to bring it in the very next day. I told them the issue and they said they would check my car's computer to see what the issue was and give me a call when they found out. I also noted that my rear bumper was hanging off the frame a little due to numerous bumps from OTHER parallel parkers (but that's another story). They told me they could probably fix that too, but would take a look at it. An hour later they called me and said that the car's computer was saying that the service engine soon light was on due to a faulty oxygen sensor and told me the code specifically that they were reading in case I didn't believe them. They quoted me a price of approximately $300 to fix it and I told them to go ahead with it. I also asked their thoughts on the bumper and they told me that they had fixed that already and just put a bolt in it to hold it to the frame and not to worry about it. I picked the car up later that afternoon with a solid bumper and no service engine soon light and it has been running for a few weeks with no hiccups. Sometimes those lights can be many things, but seems like they got the problem. And it was an added bonus that they fixed this annoying bumper issue for NO CHARGE! They are a nice family run shop and happily recommend them to anyone looking for a fair mechanic. I thank Angie's List for helping me find them and all the users that recommended them previously. This was my second experience with them and again, it was a pleasure.

We were very impressed with their attitude and the work that they did. They even charged us less than the original quote. It was the first time visit and everything was very satisfactory.

I used them based upon both a personal recommendation as well as the positive Angie's Report, which I found to be exactly correct. They provided an accurate estimate and performed all necessary work properly and on time. I think their prices were very fair.

These guys have been serving the local neighborhood for years. The father and son that run the placed are a grumpy pair but really nice guys. Their work is always quality and the price is fair. I have used them many times over the past ten years and they have always been able to get me up and running.
