UMBRELLA LOCKSMITH INC

I just moved and needed two new locks and knobs on my apartment door so I called Umbrella Locksmith, who I had used before. I spoke with Nate, who asked me to send photos of the door, and locks, which I did immediately, and I was told they would send me a quote. Days went by with no reply so I sent a followup email, followed with a phone call. Nate had clearly forgotten about my request for a quote and had to ask me for the details again, which I gave him again. More time passed and he emailed me with links to different lock options, but they were not the type I was looking for, which Nate should have known from my emails and our phone calls. Finally, after two weeks of waiting, and still not having received a quote for the work, Nate said that they would need to send a tech to take a look at the door, and this would be a $55 service fee. I questioned why they needed to view the door in person since two weeks ago when I initially reached out they only needed photos, and why there would be a $55 to just receive an estimate. I asked for the manager to call me so we could discuss this because I have been a long standing customer of Umbrella Locksmiths and have never been a charged fee just to receive an estimate for what would have been an expensive job. The owner called me the same day and could not have been any nastier. I explained to the owner that I was looking to get my job done immediately and I had been waiting two weeks for a quote just to be told I now needed a tech to view the door (which is less than two blocks from the store) and I was ready to move ahead with the work but didnt agree to pay a $55 fee just to receive an estimate for the work. The owner started yelling at me, and told me that he dosen't work for free (which includes giving an estimate), and that if I don't want to pay $55 for his time to give me an estimate, I should go elsewhere and abruptly hung up the phone on me. Needless to say, I have taken my business elsewhere (and after having spoke with two of their competitors, I can say that other locksmiths on the UES do NOT charge for an estimate, even if it does require them to view the door in person). DO NOT USE UMBRELLA LOCKSMITH, THE OWNER IS TERRIBLY RUDE AND THEY WILL ONLY WASTE YOUR TIME!

All they did was copy a key - but it was a Medeco key that two other locksmiths had tried and failed to copy successfully. Service was very quick and friendly.

My interaction with them was very good. I have used them once on a recommendation of a friend. I didn't find them on your list. They did a good job. They did a good job, it was a simple job. They came and installed a lock and they did it. It was a reasonable price, it's what I would have expected. The quality was fine, I chose the lock and quality of the installment work was good. They did a very good job of putting it on. I went to their store to choose a lock and they came in a reasonable time. They came when they said they would. They were professional.

He is a lovely man.

Person on the phone was lovely and set up an appointment for me at my convenience the next day; Lenny turned up right when they said he would (they gave me a 2-hour window) and was quick, professional, and courteous, leaving me instructions about how to duplicate keys and even recommending other locksmiths convenient to where I worked. Price is a little high -- I was quoted around $130 per lock but the quote probably didn't take tax into account -- but there's no substitute for good service!

Excellent. Courteous on the phone, great follow-up, they could have done some unnecessary work but did just what was needed.

THE QUALITY OF UMBRELLA LOCKSMITH IS TOP NOTCH, EVEN THOUGH THE PRICE IS A LITTLE HIGH. THEY CAME RIGHT AWAY ON A SNOWY NIGHT AND DID WHAT THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO DO.

THEY ARE ALWAYS VERY HELPFUL. I LIKE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE VERY CLOSE TO WHERE I LIVE, SO IT IS VERY CONVENIENT TO USE THEM. THEY DO GOOD WORK AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO OTHERS.
