Overall:  The purchasing experience itself was excellent.

The third time, I was ready to buy. David Schwartz, the store manager, spent another 90 minutes with me while I narrowed it down to 2 different kinds, one that retailed for about $1700 and a less expensive one for about $1000 (before the substantial discount I'd been led to expect from CR, and which Dave offered without prompting).  Both would have been good, so I brought my husband in the next day and we decided to take the less expensive one, which happened to be preferable in certain ways.  Although Sleepy's sales people work on commission,  Dave seemed perfectly happy to sell us that one instead of the more costly one.

The next day I realized that our platform bed has an unusually high lip, and it turned out that Sleepy's didn't carry a support that would raise the mattress to or above the height of the lip (so we could tuck sheets in easily), I was afraid I'd have to have one built, which would have cost $300 at Gothic Cabinet Craft.  Dave's colleague, Jacques, then suggested purchasing a very low box base to put on the platform, and since both that box and our mattress were on sale if bought as a combination, we paid $800 for both, substantially less than the $2000+ I was afraid we'd end up paying a department store like Macy's or Bloomingdale's.  Also, because we'd saved several hundred dollars by buying the cheaper mattress, I was able to purchase two TempurPedic foam pillows we both liked at lot (no discount on those, which were $99 each!).

Sleepy's delivered everything in 48 hours as promised (it would have been 24 hours, but purchasing the box late in the afternoon the day after we ordered the mattress caused an understandable delay. The delivery guys, who also bagged and removed our old mattress--New York City now requires that mattresses be disposed of with a bedbug protector on them--were fast, friendly, careful, and professional.

The only reason I'm not giving Sleepy's straight As is that I felt, as another reviewer did, that the company shouldn't charge $16 for removing the old mattress--not that they don't have a perfect right to, but I would be even more enthusiastic if I hadn't had to make the decision between paying that and having one of the building staff do it for free.  (The fee is set by the national company, not  individual stores.)

I highly recommend the Sleepy's store we went to, and especially David Schwarz, the manager, who was not only patient with my questions but went out of his way to make sure I got exactly what I wanted, at the best price he could give me.
