Absolutely horrific! Contractor billed himself as a former U.S. Marine. In the post 9/11 environment in NYC, I stupidly bought into this. Work performed was sloppy and unprofessional. Invoices were padded. Workers were frequently MIA. Months would pass without any work being performed. When confronted with issues with the project, contractor became aggressive and verbally abusive. Eventually, lawyers were involved - at considerable additional expense! - and final job was completed by another contractor at further expense. Dept. of Consumer Affairs was of little help, claiming he was unlicensed to perform the contracted services. Subsequently, he was fined in excess of $100,000.00 for performing home improvement work without a license. Protect yourself from this guy. Get EVERYTHING in writing and have a lawyer review your contract first! Afterwards, document EVERYTHING (every telephone call, every meeting, every conversation)cross your fingers and pray.
