Daniel Kozlov used sub-par workers. He may "sub-contract" from another contractor. The plumber whose license number he used only visited the worksite twice to my knowledge. The actual work was done by inexperienced workers who had to re-do the medicine cabinet. They installed the single towel rack too close to the heat pipe. They also built a cabinet too close to the heat pipe vent, which makes access to this fixture difficult. Though I spend a fortune on fancy drainpipes, they installed the ugliest and cheapest water shutoff valves on the market. Since I was away for this part of the work, I did not see it until it was too late to change or move them and still finish the job on time. I had to buy replacement covers so that these valves at least resembled the rest of the visible pipes. The worst experience, however, has come over the last two years. The bathroom sink, a wall installation, started to sag. It came to rest on the drainpipes below. When I called Dan Kozlov, he refused to even come to look at the sink, claiming he was "out of business" -- but here is his company still on Angies List. I was forced to have the sink repaired at my own cost. My plumber showed me that the sink had not been correctly installed with the proper support provided by the manufacturer, Duravit. Instead, NY Modern Interiors' workers had simply hung this quality sink using cheap wing nuts! I count myself lucky that the expensive pipes that I used beneath the sink were able to hold it up for this long, as disaster was a short time away. When the job was completed, it looked pretty. I designed a nice bathroom. Fortunately, I did check the work on the bathtub with the help of the building's own resident plumber, and believe that the tub was correctly installed.

GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING !! The company uses two company names: Payless Floor and New York Modern Interiors LLC I had just purchased my first home, a one bedroom apartment. I needed to get the flooring done because it was old and many of the parquet tiles were starting to pop up. When we met the contractor he said he would do the entire job in $3000, which included removing the old floor (for which he charged me $300) and placing new bamboo flooring. The contractor seemed like a truthful person. He told me that since I live in a coop, I should NOT tell the coop board that I am removing the old flooring or else the process to get approval would be tedious. He said, ? trust me, I do work in Manhattan all the time.? We will remove and dispose of the old flooring when we get there. I trusted him and signed the contract. BIG MISTAKE!!! Literally, 9:30 pm the NIGHT BEFORE he is supposed to start the job, He calls me and says, ? I need to use a special glue for the bamboo flooring to stick to the original ground, if I remove the parquet flooring. I do not have that glue and I cannot guarantee that the bamboo flooring will stick to the original cement. If you decide to remove your flooring I will NOT give you my warranty on the flooring. My recommendation is to keep the old flooring and lay your new bamboo flooring on top.? I swear to you, I got the phonecall the NIGHT BEFORE he was going to start the job. Since I had already gave him a deposit and had all the wood in the apartment I trusted him, a HUGE MISTAKE!! I wanted his ?5-year warranty? if anything happened to the flooring. He said he will give me the warranty if I keep the old flooring. I was afraid that the old flooring would lift since it would be stuck to the bamboo floor, and there would be creaking. He said, ? don?t worry, this will not be an issue especially since I am placing down a good insulation.? You are probably thinking? all of this sounds so ridiculous and makes no sense?how can a flooring company not have a proper glue to do flooring work. This was the SAME thing that was going through my head too!!All of this totally sketched me out, but I was in a bind now. He had my deposit. He had purchased all the wood to install. And the night before he is pulling such shady tactics with me about him not giving me warranty and not having the proper ?glue? to do the job. I told him to go buy the proper glue. He said that even if you have that proper glue, the bamboo floor will not stick properly. The other problem was that in the contract he said he was not going to remove the old flooring, even though he charged me $300 to do so. So I had not choice at this point?either I loose half of my money or I complete the job, so I agreed. When he did the job, it was a dirty job. He had glue spots ALL OVER the new flooring. I was on my knees for a week after, scraping off glue from the new bamboo flooring. The sample of bamboo flooring that he showed me was NOT the flooring he had installed. He showed me a cream colored bamboo floor, and what he installed was a nasty yellow colored bamboo floor. After doing the walkthrough I told him that I did not like what he did, and that I did not think it was fair that he said he would take out my old flooring and charge me for it, but not do the job. He dismissed my concerns and asked me for the balance. I had no choice so I gave him the money. Now?8 months later, my concerns of the floor popping up came true. The floor is creaking at many different spots. I call Daniel and tell him my concerns. He says, ? that the humidity is too high in my house and the walls are moving, that is why the floor is shifting and creaking? I told him that he should come take a look at it. He came and said there was nothing he could do! I asked him about the 5year warranty that he promised me?and he comes back to me and says, ? You have NO WARRANTY from me?I told you to remove the flooring and you chose not to so that you could save money!? This infuriated me?he took my trust in him and slapped it right back on my face! He told me that I had purchased cheap flooring which is also the problem. I had purchased SOLID bamboo flooring?cheap flooring would be laminate flooring which I DID NOT get. So now I am stuck with flooring that makes noise every time you step on it, and no warranty for work. I do NOT WANT you to suffer like I did. If you do decide to go with this company GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING AND HAVE IT SIGNED. He did everything verbally with me. I learned my lesson the hard way. This was a huge lesson I learned?

This company appears to be a "little brother" company associated with another. The workmen of NYMI did a good job of demolition and cleanup. They were also attentive to my design plan and desires and promptly corrected mistakes and/or less-than-ideal carpentry. (However, I now have a problem with a heat valve due to one of their cabinets -- something they probably should have foreseen.) I wished for better English on the part of the workmen, as I had to wait for the manager to show up and translate. They worked hard and followed very well specific instructions regarding not inconveniencing other building tenants. I think their pricing was fair and accurate and their work, on a scale of 1 to 10 was overall a 9. They left some minor items open:a small leak in the drain, securing a moving toilet, installing a shower shield and correcting a sink drain that does not completely close. At their suggestion, I used an outside worker to finish these items, and have made, with their agreement, an appropriate deduction in the final payment. Overall, NY-MI was flexible and attentive. They worked neatly and were careful about the rest of the apartment. Once all the necessary fixtures were available, they worked quickly and efficiently to complete the job, cooperating nicely with the building's Superintendent and keeping hallways and the elevator clean and clear of obstructions. I would use them again.
Description of Work: Complet gutting and renovation of bathroom. Included reinstallation of all plumbing plus minor additional work on related plumbing and repairs inclulding electrical.
