Let me put this simply. I am anal retentive. Yes, I am anal retentive about perfection and I am anal retentive about details. Some people believe that perfection does not exist. This is a philisophical question left to those people smarter than myself. In the end there is a gold standard to all pursuits and it's this standard that I seek in everything that I do. So where in the world could I find the gold standard of painters to paint my crumbling walls in my modest NYC apartment? Calling the super or the building manager to have my apartment painted for free (as stated in the rental agreement) was out of the question. I was tired of laziness; paint on my hardwood floors, cracking wall spackle, and paint over my electrical outlets. This is the standard set in my rental agreement. Unacceptable. After 15 years of living in my apartment things had to change. My walls were crumbling from years of water damage and neglect. I did a Google search and found Danny Lenczewski . I called him just to see if he was interested in the job and to see how friendly he was. I also asked him a couple of questions about his process. I talked to Danny about my to-do list and he do not look upon it as excessive. What I requested was extensive, however, and it was going to take some time considering how many steps were involved. First, I wanted all peeling paint scraped off my walls and ceilings. Then I wanted two coats of wall compound applied and sanded between each coat. This was a two day process. Then came wall primer. Then came two coats of Benjamin Moore white paint, both flat and eggshell. After Danny and I agreed to all of these steps he gave me a reasonable estimate and we set up a time to meet. First impressions matter. He came the day he said he was going to and he showed up on time. Even so, when I met Danny I was apprehensive because of all the past paint jobs which did not go well. The glass was half empty from the start. I was worried about my demanding nature but I was determined to be kind and to give Danny the benefit of the doubt. Within a few hours into the process my worries started to subside, at least, just a bit. Danny was the first painter I have ever had that took his time to prep for the job. He was careful to seal off each room with plastic and tape and covered all floors carefully and thoroughly. He also took off all electrical plates and either removed my light fixtures from the ceiling or taped them off carefully. For the first time I started to feel that this painter knew what he was doing and what procedures needed to be followed. I had no idea how long this job was going to take. I also have a full time job and I left Danny the keys to my apartment. I could not afford to take time off of work or micro-manage the job. In the end, I had to trust Danny with my belongings and with the job. He would ask me questions when needed and he always listened to my ideas and requests without judgement and with professionalism. Furthermore, Danny would see problems that I had not seen. He would provide me with solutions and we agreed how he would fix the problems. For the first time I felt that I had met a painter that went above and beyond the call of duty. The job took a full nine days. This sounds like alot of time for a two bedroom apartment but, before Danny, my apartment looked like a depression era relic. After Danny, my apartment was not the same. The walls and ceilings are pure white, buttery smooth, and even, the closest thing you could get to a complete renovation with all new drywall. Just as importantly Danny did not leave paint splatters on my wood floors and fixtures. For the first time in my life, I love coming home and spending time in my apartment. I was actually teary eyed when the job was finished. I just could not believe the transformation. I will always remember this. Danny is a blessing and from here on out I will never use anyone else to paint my apartment. Thank you, Danny.
