Holzman Interiors

Julie Holzman of Holzman Interiors designed the new kitchen in my coop apartment, built 1911, as well as two bathrooms. The results are splendid. Julie considered the character of the building, listened to my own thoughts, and designed a kitchen of elegance and gravity that looks completely "meant to be" -- and also has tons of storage space. The baths are beautiful: one is sumptuous and serene, the other is playful and delightful. 

Julie is deeply experienced and also easy-going and easy to work with -- never a hint of impatience even when I was looking at every white tile in NYC trying to find just the right white. Our contractor was impressed with her attention to detail and quickness in trouble-shooting. They made a great team. 

As for her design sensibility and taste, it is very refined; at the same time, she is open-minded. It's a winning combination. She also has a great sense of where you splurge and where you cut back.  When I was trying to choose new door hardware (knobs, etc.) it was near the end of the reno and I was getting antsy about expense.  The apartment has lots of doors so I chose something that seemed good enough, though I wasn't over the moon about it.  Julie said, "I know your taste level and you will not be happy with these door knobs." I went instead with the Rocky Mountain door knobs, which I see and use everyday, and which thrill me everyday.  And that's what it's all about.

The bathrooms were completed on time and to my total satisfaction.

Julie got a quick sense of our taste and brought us several fabrics.  The difficulty was choosing our favorites.  She has excellent vendors with whom she's had years of experience and whose prices are affordable.  She was present when the upholsterer came to our apartment to measure, discussed styles with him and my husband and me and saw the job through to the finish.  I have no complaints.  I also plan to work with her to redo our bedroom (new floors, etc,) and two bathrooms.
