G M CONSTRUCTION

G M completed a full renovation of my upstairs neighbor's apartment. In the course of attaching metal lathe to the floor for a tile installation, G M drilled through a water pipe between her floor and my ceiling, causing water to come down from my ceiling. The leak was discovered on a Friday night. G M discovered the cause of the leak the next day, Saturday. G M decided to not immediately repair the leak, but wait til Monday, leaving water entering my apartment for a total of four days. The ceiling and wall of my apartment were destroyed by water damage. G M declined to compensate me directly for the damage. Fortunately, G M did carry insurance.
However, it was a taxing eight month process to extract fair compensation from the insurance company.
During the same renovation, G M removed a load bearing wall, apparently not recognizing it as such, causing further damage to my apartment. Again, G M did not properly acknowledge the damage.
Many contractors will do their best to make repairs inadvertently caused during the construction process. I understand that accidents happen in the course of building; unfortunately G M did not repair their accidents in a timely fashion nor provide an adequate response when they occurred.
