I have had three consecutive terrible experiences with this company over the past month and will never use them again. They said they would repair one of my five PTAC units but twice did not bring the part, then missed a third appointment and didn't call to reschedule. At the same time they repaired a second unit that had to be removed from the building. They promised to return it in 3 to 5 days. Five days later I called them and they said they needed an additional 6 days to get it back to me. I am highly doubtful that I'll get it back. This is a poorly run company. Recommend looking elsewhere.

Unit 1: They fixed a broken fan. However it broke down again one year later. (Maybe not their fault.) Unit 2: They said it needed to be replaced at cost of $1800. I got a second opinion: The 2nd guy fixed it easily by replacing the temperature control piece, for cost of $450!

These guys apparently have a relationship with super in the building.  Because of this, super was willing to attend to them while they were in the apartment, and they were incredibly quick to respond.  I think I got next day or within a few days service during a heat wave.  I notice that there are quite a few negative reviews, so it seems that it may depend on relationship to building...
In any case, the unit seems to work okay.  They replaced a McCray with a unit that they clearly assemble using parts from a Chinese manufacturer.  The cost is favorable, but I don't know yet about durability.  The unit has worked reasonably well over a hot summer.

This is the firm that I bought two units from 7 years ago and who I have had service my units since I bought my apartment in 2003. The units have never worked all that well and last year the unit that was not working had to be taken to the shop and, many hundreds of dollars later, returned to me with a lack of clarity as to what exactly was wrong with it. When I called about the unit not working this year, despite a heat wave, I had to wait four days for a service call. They arrived 35 minutes later than the end of the three hour window of time that they had promised me. They looked at the unit and told me that they had to take it to the shop again. When I mentioned that it had gone to the shop just a year earlier, the service tech told me that he was the one who had come last year. Before they took it, I noticed that a wire was loose and not connected and I mentioned it to them; they seemed perplexed that I wanted them to reconnect it before giving up. When they did, it worked.
The bill that I signed was for 119.76 but my credit card was charged 223. I called them about that but my "paperwork' was not handy and they were going to check it out.
One week later, the unit stopped working again. I called them to tell them and to ask if they could send someone promptly, since a week earlier I took half a day off from work and they were later than the promised window. I thought that they should come back promptly and check on it, since  they were here just a week earlier and I was charged more than my signed invoice said. I got the usual response that they could not come for four more days. I could not wait and checked Angie's List and YELP to see that others have had problems with this company as well. The new firm that I called based on a positive Angie's List rating came that same day, fixed the unit overnight, and put it back the next day. Secondly, the other firm told me that the units were not in great shape, and that, despite being taken to Figlia & Sons a year earlier where I assumed they were cleaned as part of the service review, I was told they were very dirty and a mess.
I have lost any confidence in this firm. I don't trust their explanations, I still find the incorrect charge worrisome. They don't seem to go out of their way even for long-term customers. Their work is questionable and I don't trust them.
I would not hire this firm or recommend them to anyone.

I warn you not to use this company. They are dishonest. Buyer beware.
There current product line (Simon-Aire) are McQuay copies manufactured
in China and absolutely substandard. I purchased a 16,500 BTU unit and
the compressor fan failed after 4 years (after warranty expired). Last
year I purchased a 9,000 BTU unit and it did not work properly and was
shockingly noisy. I asked them to return my unit if they could not
provide an adequate unit. The owner came and attempted to bully my wife
and infer that we were crazy. He was arrogant, rude  and abusive.  When I told them to replace my unit they
installed an incompatible unit with my heating system that I just
recently discovered was the case when the first unit failed. They are
recommended by my "A" midtown building and are clearly paying off
management to get favored status.

Fantastic. I would not look anywhere else. I called on Friday, they came on Monday, said the compressor was blown. I could either repair the compressor or replace the unit. I had a new unit the next day. I had had another HVAC company out who wanted to replace the unit with a much more expensive unit that would not fit our current sleeve, replace the louver and grilles. $2100 vs. $9500. The service rep was delightful and helpful, the service personnel arrived during their agreed upon time slot, made the necessary installation, cleaned up after themselves and to boot, they were wonderful with my dog.  Service was impeccable and efficient.

I responded to the repeated postcards we received from Figlia & Sons aka Dr. Cool's Clinic to have an annual cleaning and inspection for our NYC apartment through-the-wall air conditioner units.  They came on the appointed day and "cleaned" 5 units for $50 each, however the cleaning was superficial and the representative mainly spent his time trying to get us to replace units.   The prices quoted for new units turned out to be much higher (+25%) than other vendors charge.  One of the units they recommended changing was  three years old.   We had it checked by another service provider (Norwest) who showed us that it was operating perfectly well.
Lesson - if you respond to ads offering inexpensive annual cleaning, don't be surprised when they to be upsell expensive replacements.
Our experience with Figlia's sister company, RGA Mechanical, was even worse, therefore I advise against using this vendor.  The super in our building confirmed bad experienced with Figlia, which is why they aren't on our building's recommended list.

When we got the a/c back it worked fine -- until the compressor stopped about 2 months later – unfortunately that happened in the height of the heat wave. It’s the only a/c unit in our studio apartment and when I called to find out when I would get it back, I was told that the unit didn’t have enough Freon in it, which is why, according to the manager at Figlia, the compressor stopped functioning. Why it didn’t have enough Freon in it, since I had just paid to have it recharged two months before, I don’t know. But, as a result, we didn’t have any a/c for almost 4 days. Without cross ventilation, this studio apartment is broiling. Their installer came back to reinstall the unit August 4 and then, after he left my apartment, I discovered that the unit he had installed was not my unit. This one had a different serial number. I called down to the building concierge and he stopped the installer just as he was leaving the building. He came back and seemed genuinely surprised that the serial number from my original unit  (which was on the receipt he had just given me – and the one I spent $680+ fixing) and the one he had just installed -- didn’t match. Someone at Figlia made the switch – and I never really got a satisfactory answer as to why – because someone had taken the repair tag with my name on it from my original unit and put it on the unit that the installer just put in my wall. When the installer called the company, he spoke to one of the managers to ask what was going on. He put me on the phone and I asked him the same question: “Where was the a/c unit that I just paid almost $700 to fix?  Then he said something to the effect “well, this was a newer model and was probably better than my old one.” In less than two weeks, this unit leaked overnight, it was clear the unit hadn’t been checked sufficiently by Figlia before the switch was made and before it was installed. The building handyman came to our apartment on the morning of the leak to inspect the unit and saw that the condensate drain was clogged with debris and rust and filled out a report to that effect. All of this of course says nothing about the disruption to the lives of my wife and I while all this is going on.   Rather than accepting their responsibility, Figlia & Sons fought us tooth and nail regarding liability, claiming the leak was the condo’s fault (the building where I live), completely ignoring and the mountain of evidence that clearly showed it was their responsibility.  A recent arbitration settlement by their insurance carrier with mine (after months of haggling) was ultimately an admission of their responsibility. I found their actions, on the one hand, mystifying but, ultimately, unprincipled and unprofessional, starting at the highest levels of the company. My recommendation: do not use Figlia & Sons for your HVAC work.

Figlia was great from start to finish. They always have someone staffing the phone (unlike some of the other companies, where you have to leave messages and wait for a callback), the owners or managers of the company will talk to you personally, and they're very personable and willing to spend time explaining the product, etc. The installation date/time was punctually met; the crew was quick and efficient at doing  the installation. After the installation, I had a couple of questions about the machines (once I had a chance to test them out) and Figlia sent a field supervisor out (no charge) to go over our particular situation (we have cabinet enclosures surrounding the HVAC units). The supervisor explained everything to my satisfaction; he was knowledgeable and pleasant. Figlia manufactures their own machines, and these machines have so far operated very well (it's now mid July and the machines are used fairly often). We're very happy with both the product and the service. This company strikes me as very professional.

They were supposed to do three, but they only did one. They said, over the phone, that they could take out all three, but they said that one would be a little bit trickier of a job and they would not be able to do it. What they did do was great. They were fast and clean. They had all the right supplies for the job.

Marc was on time and replaced both units within an hour. He placed mats on the floor before beginning work and removed all debris. You would never know he had been here except for the beautiful, cool, quiet new units.

I needed 4 air conditioners and each one of them presented a problem ranging from the need to cool an oddly-shaped room to fitting within unalterable window spaces. The company owner very generously and patiently spent time listening to what I needed and offering several options and recommendations--more than once! He sent his expert installer to give me an estimate and excellent advice. When they installed the air conditioners, they were exactly on time and were extremely courteous and careful. The installation required some customization of the surrounding panels and it was done very nicely. Their recommended air conditioners work as they said they would--quietly and efficiently. It really couldn't have been better!
