Hardwood Flooring Service

Initial conversations with the Jerry from Emerald Floors were pleasant. He was a nice guy and was very cooperative in giving all the necessary paperwork to get the board to approve/process the work. His quote was right on track and in line with other competitors when shopping around. Once building approved , Jerry and I proceeded with the contract to start the work.
The day before start of work, Jerry called mentioning the rip up of the kitchen was not included. It was agreed and in the contract that the entire apartment would require rip up and installation. After much headache of back and forth , I just wanted to start the project so we agreed we can leave the kitchen out.
Then he calls later saying he needs 50% deposit up front the day before they even start. This was unheard of for me (I was providing my own flooring and base molding), and I requested to give 50% deposit the morning the crew shows before starting the work (which I thought was fair for both parties). He mentioned they wouldn't budge and after much back and forth, he agreed to take 25% the day before, and 25% the morning they start the work. I was a bit sceptical as I don't like to give any deposit the day before anyone shows up to work!
Deposit was given, and the crew did show up on time the following day to start. They only sent 2 men (which was not enough).
Day 1 was completed which was the rip up and cork underlayment of the living room. Jerry called later that evening and said the men couldn't show up until the following week as he mentioned the flooring and glue needed a week to cure/dry. I spoke with a professional as well as looked on the flooring manufacturers website and relayed to him this was not true and I needed to have the work completed and needed to finish the job so I can live in my apartment. (I was temporarily housed for the time being). After much headache he called back and mentioned they will be there to finish the job.
Day 2 was then completed which was the installation of the engineered hardwood flooring in the living room.
Day 3 was then completed which was the rip-up and installation of underlayment in the bedroom and part of the foyer. Jerry called again later in the evening and mentioned he wanted the rest of the payment (50%) up front before completing the job. The job wasn't even halfway done so I told him the remainder of the payment will be given upon completion of the entire project (which was stated in the contract).
Day 4 - no one showed up. I called Jerry and he mentioned he would get back to me. Hours later he calls me (after I wasted a day waiting around), the men wouldn't show up because they wanted the remainder of the money up front. After back and forth on the phone, Jerry mentioned that he sub-contracted out to the company that he uses often. He said he was severing all ties with them and will send a new crew on Monday (which meant my apartment would still be unlivable over the weekend).
Day 5 (after the weekend) - he sends a new crew and they sent 3 guys and finished up as much as possible staying as late as they could. These guys were great and I wished we used them in the first place. They were very fast and efficient. They finished the rest of the ripup, installation and base (minus the base molding in the living room).
Day 6 - 1 guy shows up just to finish the molding, portion of the floor which we ripped out and replaced due to it caving in. He also ripped up and completed the kitchen.
Overall - This entire project was a major major headache and very stressful. This was mainly due to Jerry @ Emerald Floors subcontracting out and being subject to their demands. Everyday was something new wrong. In the end he did make it up by getting the job done (which required a new crew) and even having his associate help me move my furniture. The job was done well, there was just way too much stress than was needed.

The flooring went in perfectly and looks beautiful. They started a day late and had trouble getting up the glue from our old floors, but they managed to finish on time. The carpeting was a very small job (just one room), so it took them several days (and phone calls) to finally install it. The carpeting looks beautiful. My only complaint is that they had to take our door off its hinges to install the carpeting, because the door was too long after the carpet was put down, but they didn't trim the door for me. Overall, though, the floors look great. We LOVE our new bamboo floor.

I WOULD SAY THEY GET THE JOB DONE WHEN NEEDED. THEY ARE DEFINITELY EASY TO DEAL WITH. I WOULD SAY IT'S A NORMAL PRICE. THEY ARE NICE, AND THE WORK THAT THEY DO IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT, NO MORE NO LESS.
