Terrible. I am very upset. See above. While David Bober is a nice enough fellow, there is always a reason why things went wrong and it is never his incompetence or mistake.
Description of Work: This contractor was hired by the sponsor from whom I bought my apartment to fix the saddle to the master bath shower that was broken by the prior contractor who installed a door stop. In any event, he put in a new saddle that doesn't match the other stone. In the process he cracked 4 stones and damaged 4 others. He replaced 2 of the cracked stones and tried to convince me not to replace the other 2. He also told me that the other damage was already there, when I pressed him he admitted he did it. Finally, and this bothers me the most, he scratched the inside of our toilet bowl and not it looks dirty all the time. I don't know how he did this but can only believe that he used the toilet as a waste disposal. This is totally irresponsible and negligent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Response from David Bober Interior Projects LLC
I have only just found out that this client entered the review and set up a listing for me on Angie's list. I am a small contractor who has been doing interior renovations in NYc for almost 30 years. As to the review posted I was indeed working on repairs and capital improvements to 4 of the penthouse units for the developer at that time. Among these repairs were extensive tile repairs to correct problems with improper installations. While working there they asked that I repair the member's shower saddle. They informed me in advance that she was a 'problematic' person to deal with. She had two small infants at home and was extremely concerned about dust, use of chemicals, etc. I arrived to do the repair and found nothing in the small bathroom moved in anticipation of my working there. I had to carefully move all of her personal items to perform the work. Removing the stone saddle necessitated removing a frameless glass shower door. I then dug out the saddlle, finding the previous contractor had improperly applied adhesive to the back of surrounding stones, leaving significant voids. These unsupported areas adjoining the saddlle were vulnerable to breakage and two in fact cracked during this process. It was made more difficult by not being able to use dry saws, etc. to remove grout owing to the dust it would create. I had to do this manually. As to the replacement stone saddle, the original stone used throughout the project was a soft marble 'crema marfil' all evidently from one supplier some 5 years earlier. Owing to the fact that more was unavailable I had to go to a stone supplier with a sample and get the closest match possible. The new saddle was custom made and though matching in color, had a tiny bit more 'figuration' in the creamy base color. Not a perfect match but very, very close (this was all explained laboriously to the tenant). I replaced two of the adjoining cracked stones and in removing these, two additional stones developed tiny 'hairline' cracks. These were in almost invisible locations. The other minor marring of 2 stones within the shower was not done by me and I made no such admission to the tenant. I had a friend stop by to help me re-hang the heavy glass shower door and he cleaned one of my trowels in the toilet without my knowledge. The tiny black 'tool' marks from the steel touching the porcelain (below the bowl water line) is easily removed by muriatic acid or 'bar keepers friend' applied in a paste and let to sit for a few minutes. All in all this was a very difficult fix done in a rush in an occupied space where the owners needed to use the bathroom on a continual basis. I left for the day, leaving the bathroom spotless. I e-mailed the client offering to fix the remaining issues. I had to obtain and cut the new replacement stones, I had to obtain cleaners to remove scuff marks on shower stones (not done by me) and could easily deal with the tiny toilet marks. The tenant demanded a new toilet from the owners, she sent exaggerated claims of damage to them and forbid me from continuing the job. In the end I did not even bill for my work, absorbing the time, the cost of the custom saddle and the other materials, a total of almost 900.00 dollars. The owners (developers) went to inspect, found the claims exaggerated and apologized for getting me involved. I continued to work for them successfully through months that followed. While I do accept responsibility and as stated offered to repair all issues I note that this is sometimes the nature of renovation work; unanticipated existing conditions, difficult work locations and clients. I write this only to correct the facts presented as I do not rely on Angie's list for my references. I will also now ask some previous clients to post their impressions of my professional qualifications to counter this distorted posting. I hope this will be helpful in allowing the interested reader to fairly judge the facts of the matter.
