Cardinal ordered the wrong cabinets and then claimed it was our mistake. Ordering the correct cabinets significantly delayed the project. The rest of the project took several months and required very close monitoring by me. The end product was very nice and the dollar price was reasonable, but there was a significant cost in frustration and time on my part.
I would think twice before ever using them again.
We expect the job to be substantially complete within the next two weeks, slightly ahead of schedule as stated in our contract.
I would also like to compliment everyone with whom I've come into contact at Cardinal. From Bill Tuorto Sr., to Rocco, to Ron Balsamo (our project manager), they are all professional, responsible and available. As already mentioned, the people they work with are the same.
In closing, I am frankly surprised to see some of the negative reviews posted here. I have now had 2 separate experiences with Cardinal 3 years apart and I have not once been disappointed. I would highly recommend them without reservation for any kitchen and/or bathroom project.
They were very friendly and yes'd us about everything until we signed and they were in.
They charged top dollar for doors and molding and gave us garbage. the doors started splitting after 1 year, the "carpenter" left large gaps behind the (very poor quality) molding and then filled it with plaster resulting in unsightly cracking behind the molding.
Every time the construction crew made a mistake (and they made a lot) I'd point it out to the owner/manager that there seemed to be a communication problem ...he'd imply that I forgot or changed my mind. He refused to accept that his son wasn't doing his job...even when I had emailed correspondence between us as confirmation!
All the mistakes resulted in lost money on their part apparently and that's when they started using poor quality materials and workers. It felt as if we were being made to pay for their lack of expertise and integrity.
Both sinks fell out (!) within 2 years. The mirror on the medicine cabinet started to separate almost immediately. Their painter charged a fortune, but forgot to prime--the doors and molding is such a poor quality it cannot be stripped, so all of it has to be removed.
Although they gave my building licenses for the "master electrician and plumber" they were supposed to be using , they actually sent unqualified workers instead. At least 2 of the outlets that worked prior to the renovation did not work after--the toilet never flushed properly.
Every step of the way , I'd point out the latest problem & they'd laugh and say not to worry..."that seam in the molding won't show when the painter sands it and paints it" or "that issue with the toilet will be fixed when the "master plumber" adjusts it...etc, etc.
They didn't cover anything to protect it when working and got plaster, sawdust etc on all new appliances (resulting in my new stainless sink to be sanded)
I could go on, but you probably get the picture. The job was supposed to take 3 months. After aprox 6 months they started sending 1 unqualified worker about once a week...in other words, they stopped working.
I spoke to the owner, the co-workers, the man I contracted with to no avail. Sal Tuoro, Ron Balsamo and Bill Tuoro just continued to give me lip service. They had made so many mistakes and done such bad work that after a year of excuses for the 3 month job they projected) stopped showing up. (Which actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise because every time they fixed one thing they'd damage another --by standing on a new, unprotected toilet seat with debris covered work boots to reach the light for example.)
It was my first renovation and although I requested references which all said wonderful things, I've since entertained the notion that these "references" may have been friends of theirs(?)...I can see no other explanation.
I met someone after the fact who had an equally awful experience with them prior to my renovation. He said the company had changed hands around the time I did my work, so maybe that explains why my references were worthless...I don't know and I don't care. I'm just glad that I've finally saved enough money to fix all the damage they did.
I was devastated-financially and emotionally. I'm more experienced and wiser now. BEWARE of these people-Since my experience I've learned of others who've had walls fall down, sinks fall out and other quality problems with this company.
