Veterinarians,

About us

BluePearl Veterinary Partners LLC is a community of hospitals that offer specialty and emergency veterinary medicine. BluePearl is wholly owned by employee veterinarians and veterinary professionals and locally managed by experienced, community-focused, and service-minded veterinarians. The primary care veterinarians who refer their clients and patients to us are our partners. BluePearl’s obligation is to work together with the primary care veterinarians to provide the best patient care. As important as our medical expertise is, compassion is the foundation of veterinary medicine. At BluePearl, we believe that excellent care combines state-of-the-art veterinary medicine with a focus on compassion and respect for your pet and for you. We treat your pet as we treat our own pets. We treat you as we treat our family friends. We treat your family veterinarian as our partner. BluePearl is growing, but we remain committed to “acting locally,” assuring that each community we are a part of receives comprehensive, compassionate veterinary care in an exceptional patient-care and work environment. The leaders of our local hospitals are shareholders in BluePearl who were invited to join BluePearl precisely because of their attitudes, what they bring to our community of hospitals, and how well they fit with our culture.

Terrible. Receptionist said all vets were in procedures, it would be a few minutes. 10 -15 minutes later - man walks in - weighs the cat, asks why we were there. Says the vet would be there in a few minutes. Who was he?? Vet comes 10 -15 minutes later. She asks why we were there. Repeat the story. She says temp. was normal (they never took it). Says he needs a cytology, and several other tests. I told her stop, slow down, one thing at a time. " I'm only telling you what all the options are. I'll get you an estimate of costs." Technician comes back - holding the thermometer (oh gee, I didn't know what it looked like) with $177 for exam, $69 for cytology, $100 for medicine. I never spent that amount of money at the Animal Medical Center. I said $100 is ludicrous - "okay I'll take it off." Fine, than you will charge me $80?? I said I'll pay for the exam, and I'm leaving. He said, that's okay, you can just leave, do you want me to hold the door for you? They want money, they don't care about the pet, they are worried about bad reviews. DO NOT GO THERE. It's no surprise that there waiting room is almost always empty.

Brought my cat here for emergency care because he had a tumor on his hip and my cat was having some sort of stroke apparently, they gave him oxygen and IV, but the vet was inclining strongly on euthanasia rather than treatment. The vet wanted to secure payment for further treatment rather than saving him because he needed a blood transfusion, I told her I'll pay for further treatment and she (vet) did not offer me any payment options, although the receptionist did, vet kept persisting euthanasia and wasted time not giving my 10yr old cat a blood transfusion, as a result a couple of hours later the vet calls me and states my cat is in cardiac arrest and ultimately died, I asked her did she give him a blood transfusion which he needed, she (vet) said: "no she didn't", I demanded an autopsy/necropsy and didn't hear from them for almost 2 weeks until I called, then after calling I finally got the results of the autopsy and charged me $500 for the oxygen and IV they gave him before he died.

I would not recommend them. They are extremely expensive and it was difficult to reach the vet. to discuss the cat's progress.
When we went to pick up my cat at the time they said he would be ready, we waited more than an hour. When the cat finally was delivered to us he was completely traumatized, he had not been properly cleaned and no one was there to discuss his post op. requirements. The cat seemed almost catatonic after the experience, he would not eat and seemed to be in pain. I had difficulty reaching a vet for some reassurance that this was a normal reaction. We had to force feed the cat to prevent him from becoming lipodotic(liver failure that afflicts cats that will not eat) Finally, the cat recovered, but the convalescence was long and we had no personal communication with the surgeon, nor did we receive a call to inquire about the cat's progress.
I felt the service was impersonal, while Dr. Kyle was probably a skilled surgeon, I never was able to actually talk to him post surgery. My impression of the facility was negative. I would not go back. I warn other pet owners not to go there.

BluePearl is a specialty vet hosipital and they also have 24 hour emergency service. The quality of the care is very good. I have been bringing my dog here on and off for 8 years but weekly for the cancer treatments.

Cats are well now. Had to decide whether to do exploratory surgery for $6k+, or treat for IBD (the other possible cause). Chose the later since the life expectancy with cancer was not much different with or without their expensive treatment. It turned out to be IBD after all so a smart choice - but not that the doc helped us make it.

Awful. My dog started recovering very well and then took a turn for the worse. After repeated trips back, Dr. Kyles claimed the problem was hip displaysia and offered give him Rimadyl. I returned several times and he did not seem at all alarmed by the recovery. As he got worse and worse, and more an more miserable... he literally couldn't walk a block (before the surgery he could hike miles). After months of absolute suffering (his and mine) I brought him to Cornell Veterinary in Ithaca. They re-opened his knee and found that a metal crimp was left in his knee cap during his surgery at Bluepearl and after months of the crimp destroying his knee, his once healthy (but injured) knee, was now meatloaf. He was operated on for four hours at Cornell to correct the Bluepearl surgery. I was told the crimp did such damage, the best I could hope for was for him to walk a mile once a week, I had months of physical therapy and after great care from Cornell, my dog can now walk several miles, but will never be the same. The six months of agonizing pain due to the incompetence of Dr. Kyles and Bluepearl significantly aged my dog.
Of course, I wrote to them to tell them what happened and to demand they repay me the money I spent on their incompetence. I was told because I went to another vet, they would not return the money. I wrote back and explained that I had returned to Kyles several times, but his diagnosis made no sense (and was later proved absurd) and I sought a second opinion (luckily) .
Go to Animal Medical if you have a serious problem. Unless there was absolutely no alternative, I will never go back to Bluepearl.

They were wonderful. They did everything they could to save her. Everyone there is so kind and loving with animals. From the receptionists to the doctors, they were great. It was one of the best places to take your pets.

Surgeon (Greenberg) was not forthright in discussing his error and the chances of recovery/prognosis for my dog. There was only perfunctory discussion -via telephone- on what was being done in the ICU. On my one visit to ICU, there were NO doctors present. (Vet techs were great, however.) "Mr Campbell, we're trying to get her CA levels up" was basically what I was told. I was charged for "Critical care conferences" but never called to facility to be present (unlike at AMC in NYC, where I felt like one of the team). Her CA levels never got up to normal (where they were the week before the op); she had a stroke, was paralysed, became partially blind, contacted a bacterial infection (probably staph, according to a technician). She was so weak during her "discharge" that she literally fell over. The person discharging forgot a prescription, disappeared to get it and never returned. No "Good luck, little dog", "Get well" etc. from anyone. I felt they were literally discarding a sick and dying animal (probably needing the cage). Cold (literally: freezing barn-like atmosphere), uncaring, detached sub-standard service. At home: further stroke, seizures, and the gradual shut-down of all my dog's internal organs -due to calcium deficiency- lead to my having her euthanised one week later. I learned that her very survival was below 50-50 following the removal of her parathyroid; her quality of life would have steadily decreased. In total, a nightmare experience and the life's end of a precious pet, due to (in my and others' opinions) a botched operation which never should have been done in the first place. (In retrospect, I could have had palliative care at home for her and avoided the extreme stress of an operation.) My carefully and politely worded questions concerning my pet's care, directed to NYC Vet Specialists (aka BluePearl) were never answered. Following an emotionally horrendous period in which my own health suffered, the amount claimed to be "owed" $7,900, is now in collection and my credit is ruined.Pet owners in New York have little recourse if something goes wrong. Vets and vet hospitals are not licensed by Consumer Afffairs Agency of NYC. Litigation will not help as "replacement value" is the only "reward" for a pet's suffering and death and an owner's grief. Please be very careful with this place. Ask that a CT be forwarded for review by your own vet. Insist that all emergency treatments be discussed, an estimate given and signed. They didn't with me, breaking their own rules and those (ethical principles) of the Association of Vet Medicine of America. Better yet, go somewhere else. I recommend AMC; their oncology team is superb. Unfortunately, they couldn't see us until eight days later.

They have specialists, and they don't do general veterinary services, and they are usually by referral. They are excellent. I would rate them highly. It usually costs me $150 to $200. They give excellent customer service and support to their clients.

While this is a very pricey office, they convinced us to sign up for a package deal that gives us many follow up visits and phone support. We feel more confident about helping our little guy after our initial visit.

Noticed my dog was not feeling well, so brought him to NYC Veterinary Specialists since I had heard good things about them. Once the emergency was over, I feel like this office was overly aggressive in testing and billing. They had us do a few tests on our dog that turned out to be about $800 wasted. They attempted to add an additional $1000 of work, which we declined. They do provide an estimate, which is great, but costs easily surpass that estimate. At one point, they attempted to charge for work I might perform in the future, actually saying they would charge half now and the rest if the procedure was needed and if not they would refund the half already paid. I could not believe the pushiness of this, after a $2000 bill. I would say that if your dog is very ill, you will receive excellent care, but will probably pay for services another vet might not find necessary.

So far, so good. I'll add to this report after my dog's biopsy, if I may.
