It was a nightmare. After a 13 hour drive this is what I encountered and it just got worse. FRIDGE: Someone else's food in it. Shelves dirty, dried blood in vegetable bin, black mold around entire seal of fridge and freezer It took me 2 hours to clean in, at 8pm at night! STOVE: Mouse droppings under burners, oven full of grease, burnt food. IT was obvious stove had not been cleaned for a very long time. Took me 2 hours to clean it. I emailed the housecleaner and her suggestion was to clean the oven with oven cleaner. She had apparently cleaned it but said it was as clean as she could get it. DISHWASHER/SINK: Did not work had to hand wash dishes. Sink hadn't been cleaned, no dish drainer available. KITCHEN: Kitchen floor had to be vacuumed, scrubbed immediately. By Wed rain had started. We had big black ants coming from everywhere. IT was suggested we used bug spray. we went through 2 cans. The skylight above cooking area leaked and there were some kind of larvae like bugs falling from the skylight. I just told my guests that it was rain! I was appalled and embarrassed! OUTDOORS: Deck was filthy, deck chairs broken/dirty, grill was dirty with grease old food. Had to buy a grill brush and grill cleaner to make it barely usable. Entrance door and screen were covered with spider webs, dirt windows hadn't been cleaned recently.. Outdoors rugs were unusable. Outdoor lights didn't work. had to buy needle nose pliers to dig out remnant of broken lightbulb All windows had to be cleaned. Window tracks full of dirt. Grass had been mowed but not edged. As we were planning on entertaining on the deck, I attempted to clean up the weeds around the deck. I came in contact with poison ivy. I am very allergic to it so I broke out with a rash and weeping sores on my arms which I had to deal with all week. SAFETY: Dining rooms chairs were all loosed. My husband had to buy a screwdriver to tighten them up to be able to sit on them Stair rail going up stairs was very loose. My elderly in laws had to be helped up stairs as they were very unsteady and the stair rail did not provide enough support. We were informed that there were issues with the fire alarms. They started to go off when we entered the house. My husband vacuumed them but had to use the circuit breaker as we could not turn them off. We informed the housekeeper. She left 2 new alarms in the post box. The house had 5 alarms. My husband didn't feel comfortable changing them and there was no ladder to reach them. It made us very uncomfortable, we continually checked to make sure things were turned off as we had no alarms for a week. The owner response was that we should have asked the housekeeper to deal with them. LINEN CLOSETS/MISC: Complete disarray. Everything just piled on top of each other. No idea how clean things were. The positive is that there was an array of cleaning supplies of which I used a lot of them This is supposed to be a party house. There were not enough dishes for a crowd. I had to purchase coffee mugs to have enough for at least one sitting. The dishes were chipped and again there were not enough for a crowd. We only had 14 people. BATHROOMS: The master bath shower was dirty. Tiles were coming off the walls and floors, one shower head didn't function. I had to buy night lights for both bathrooms to make it safer for our guest. All doors around the handles had to be scrubbed clean. My husband and I were totally humiliated, embarrassed and disgusted with this house I was hoping that the housekeeper wasn't blamed for all of these issues as there were too many for one person to be responsible. I certainly did not plan to spend the week of my son's graduation cleaning a house. I attempted to contact the owner and basically her response was that my expectations were too high and this is what people expect in a vacation rental.
Description of Work: We rented a house for my son's graduation from West Point. We were having 12 guests to stay in the house for the week of graduation
