Auto Body Work
$7,000
Work done for price paid is fair. You have to watch these guys, though. I?d strongly
suggest that if you are having a vehicle restored or partially restored, you make
the effort to inventory all working mechanical/electrical systems on
your vehicle FIRST. And give them a list of what worked before they begin on
your car.
The only time I ever heard from the place was when they needed ?more money? due to
unanticipated problems that arose in the restoration.  This is normal for a restoration, but better
feedback as the work progressed would have been better business ? not repeated surprise
calls for more $$$ at dinner time. Speaking of communication, getting a return call
from them was difficult. I had to keep pounding away ? calling each day ? until
I got a warm body who knew the status of my restoration.  Running a business and then falling off the
planet in this age of cellphones doesn?t cut it anymore. The only other feedback
I could get was when I went to the shop myself and asked how things were
progressing. All this is kind of bad form.
When I finally picked up my vehicle, several problems were visible - the major one
being that the rear seat belt harness floor bolt hole (floor pan work was done)
was in the wrong position making installation of the back seats impossible.
When I pointed it out, the body ?expert? told me
??It was like that?. Luckily, I had a shop manual (and why don?t they??) that
clearly indicated where the harness bolt hole should be. Seems I had to know my
car better than they did to get things done right. Some other sloppy work
included:
1.   Not reconnecting the headlight
springs for adjustment after the new radiator support was installed.
2.    A melted courtesy light housing (it got in the
way of someone?s torch during floor pan work).
3.    An erratic gas gauge (they had dropped the
tank to do the body work and some connection was broken in the process).
4. My air conditioning system was disconnected in the couse of the chassis work
and the gas propellant escaped.  A/C lines were left disconnected and no attempt to
reconnect/ recharged my A/C system was ever mentioned. I got tired of hearing
"IT WAS LIKE THAT" and brought it to another shop.
Of all this, only the seat belt bolt was fixed ? everything
else ?was like that when we got it?.    If
your car is GM or Ford, skip these guys. They only really know Chryslers --- (I
think)
