I think there is miscommunication between the owner of the company and the guys who are doing that they are kind of frustrated that they are not paid well so that's why I'm doing this creepy job and they are like angry guys and they are asking for money for the tip like openly even though I paid the whole sum, so that was very frustrating for me. I mean the whole job that we wanted green grass and it was very clear I was very clear I even paid more I just wanted green grass and what they did they put the seeds there and then nothing grew and then they said oh sorry it was the wind and I said oh I'm sorry and then I could do it myself, I wouldn't have hired you guys so basically I think it was very bad.

There were several extra personal touches - for example, the owner Rich Heller sent many examples of kinds of landscaping, until we pinpointed my style and favorite plants and their climate/design suitability for the space. He then sent a computer-generated new design over a photo of my home. All aspects of the job were handled very professionally. The crew was in and out in a day. To my surprise the crew came back recently to check on the plants, weed, trim and fertilize, and then sent me an email with a photo - all at no extra charge. Greener by Design is not my regular gardening service, so I was happily surprised by this extra touch.
Description of Work
New landscaping for front of house, including exploration of types of plants & trees, the design, removal of a large bush stump, composting and mulching, installing a small miniature Japanese maple and weeping cherry plus a hydrangea, transplant of grasses, plus materials and labor. Without extra charge, they also neatened and mulched the garden the grasses were transplanted from. The end result was a "refresh" of the landscaping in front of the house - 9 months later, it is growing in beautifully.

Greener by Design was an absolute pleasure to work with. Rich and his team worked with us from start to finish, all the way from initial design to installation to weekly maintenance. The day after GbD completed their work, we received multiple offers for the residence. Rich was very friendly, always readily available and provided us with great suggestions for our NYC terrace. Rich was also very clear on expectations and kept within budget. Greener by Design took our terrace from a large outdoor space to a spectacular oasis.

Overall, Rich and his crew did a good job but it took a little work to get there. They installed 3 trees and some flowers, but the birch looked a bit pathetic on planting and didn't perk up after a week of regular watering. Rich offered to replace the tree with a bigger, healthier one and the change was dramatic. The guys were supposed to plant some flowers according to a plan laid out by Rich and my wife, but somehow they ended up planting them in a different plan than what was discussed. Not a big deal. It still looks nice, but not what was discussed. Rich has a great eye and can immediately see how to improve a home's appearance. The downside is that he is busy and it took a while to schedule his visit and then a couple of weeks to get his crew to perform the work. We never really resolved the flower issue, but Rich did offer to come out and move them. Just didn't seem worth the trouble. There were multiple errors on our final invoice, but again, Rich cleared those up once they were pointed out. Overall, very satisfied with Rich's responsiveness and his desire to make things right. His crew was polite and friendly, but seemed less than the "A-team" Rich deserves for the high-end work he wants to deliver. The only reasons that I might hesitate to use them again would be the cost, the long lead time, and the hassles that came with the work (e.g., not getting the right tree the first time, the flowers, billing, and a few other hiccups). Nonetheless, we are happy with the final product. Our job was probably an exception to what seems like a quality service provider.

It was hard getting them scheduled to come do the service due to rain, etc. Finally they came and I’m glad they did it as it’s helping and the lawn is looking better . As soon as Angie’s List contacted them they contacted me. The receptionist was very nice and the service was a good price. The results were what I wanted. They just could have been more prompt and there was an outside front strip near the sidewalk that I thought was to be treated upon communicating this with them.

Overall, it went so-so. They gave me some advice and discussed some possibilities for my landscaping. We discovered that there were a few restrictions with what we were allowed to do on our property. The one individual that came out was helpful in answering my questions and had some good ideas, though.

They had a female pushing the heavy machine and seemed to be struggling. I asked one of the employees if they could fill a small hole and was told that they couldn't do it, however the owner did state that they could. Communication seemed to be a little off and I wasn't overly pleased with the service.

The service went well. They were very responsive and did excellent work. We had them design a plan for the backyard. The designer was knowledgeable, informative and cooperative. We used their design, but ended doing the landscaping ourselves. It was a great deal.

Several weeks later I happen to be on Angie's list and noticed a message. It was an introduction to the company. I responded and until I requested a refund I still had not heard from them. I strongly believe that all your big deals are frauds. This is my third purchase and third request for a refund.

Everything worked out great. I loved it. They came right on time, explained everything to me and did a good job. Their price was reasonable. They did two things for me. I do not remember what the other thing was but they did a good job at both times. The first one was for $99 but I do not know if it was for a cleanup or something. The quality of their work was good but they actually did not call me. They just came and if I was not here, I would have not been able to ask the questions that I needed. I told them that they should have called me before they came which they did not do. That was the only down side but I would absolutely use them again in the future.

We had purchased the $129 Angie's List deal for Greener by Design's aeration and overseed package. I was refunded stating we were too far. Google maps shows drive time of 35 minutes (27 miles). I would have like to see the work completed.

It was OK. They came out probably about 2 weeks after I bought the deal. When I got he sketch emailed to me I was a little disappointed in it and I got back to him and I asked him to add something more to it and he said OK but I haven't gotten to give him those additional stuff.

Rich provided us a custom analysis and design for the space we are looking to landscape. He took into account our lifestyle and personal preferences. He made adjustments as needed. Ultimately, we decided not to spend money on landscaping right now, but his design and list of plants was spot on and we'll use them I'm the future.

Scheduling the appt was difficult. I was told the office would contact me for an appt but they were planning to come that week to perform the service. I was never contacted by the office but they did go to the house (when I was not home) that week without informing me of date/time and performed the work. I was planning on discussing other work I was interested in having done but since they did the work unannounced I didn't have the opportunity to discuss other projects and based on my experience up to that point I decided not pursue further estimates/business. The work they performed seemed of average to ok quality and it appeared they had given attention to some of the problem areas of the lawn. I give the work a B rating but overall experience a C rating.

I used this service provider for lawn aeration and overseeing after purchasing a deal they offered on Angie's list deal. The deal stated I would be contacted by a certain date but I was contacted 1 day beyond the stated date via email apologizing for the delay. The aeration/ seeding offer covered a certain square footage of property with an up-charge for property over the stated square footage. The provider emailed that my property would be subject to the up-charge based on a "satellite survey" of my property. This did not sound right (the sq footage or the estimate method) to me so I questioned it and was not really satisfied with the explanation but did not pursue further bc not worth my time for $40.00 additional charge. In the end I don't think I was billed for the up charge nevertheless this started to sour me on them.

When the man arrived, It took a few minutes to focus on the 2 areas. He was talking about the front (which I didn't want help with). I brought him to the back and showed him the 2 areas that needed attention. He spoke so quickly I could barely understand him. He talked about angles and made no sense. He asked if I liked any specific color of flowers in a garden. I told him I liked all colors. At the end of our time together I felt that he had little /or no knowledge about landscape design, or any kind of design. I think he spoke to quickly to make me think he had so much information. He didn't. I asked very specific questions as to what to do with this area where my tree was (8ft x 15 ft). In the end I did not get one specific idea as to a plan. I received a drawing a few weeks later and had to call to see why it was held up. Just a lot of flowers filling up the tree space. Because I told him I wanted to put another tree there, he stuck a tree in the picture. I don't know what kind. I was very disappointed with this service. Basically I did not receive the service I signed paid for. It was a waste of my time and money. I would not recommend this company. I would love to find a good professional landscape designer if you know of one..

Greener by Design exceeded my expectations. I am extremely pleased with their work. The workers were very professional and courteous. Before they left they made sure I was satisfied with the work and offered to correct any issues I may have had. Fortunately I had no issues with the work that was done. I an definitely going to use Greener by Design in the future for all my landscaping needs.
