I would strongly urge that anyone considering doing business with John Ryan to read this review and be warned. We moved into a house in Woodstock in 2011, where the well water is difficult to treat properly because of the underlying post-glacial minerals throughout this particular area. One of our first purchases as new homeowners was a system to treat the water for extreme hardness as well as several different harmful substances. John came out, tested the water for all these things and sold us a water softener, filter, UV filter and an under-sink RO filter. To his credit, I will say that the plumbing work was excellent and he used quality materials. We had John come back every fall since then to service the system - filter changes and UV light swaps. However - and here's where I feel compelled to warn others - his "customer service" is not only sloppy but potentially dangerous to our health. I think it was 2 years ago that after he left from swapping filters, I asked his assistant Jessica if John had tested my water for hardness, since I'm seeing evidence of it on my shower doors and other locations. I've been very attentive to adding salt to the tank, which is what he'd advised me to do...he said that was all that was needed. Jessica told me that he had not done a hardness test and that if I wanted him to come out and do that, he would charge (something like $35 or $135, I can't recall). That made me pretty angry because he'd been coming here for service for 10 years and NEVER DID IT. I would have gladly paid for it, even with the assumption that the softener was working correctly. Last year I decided that I'd save a few dollars and not have to deal with John so I'd replace the filters myself. Got the whole-house filter and new UV lights and installed them. But I got stuck on sourcing the RO filters and contacted Jessica (John never provides direct contact info and hides behind her) to order the correct filters. Jessica told me that John would deliver them, even though I asked for them to be shipped, but fine. Then, through texting, Jessica sent me pictures of three different types of RO filters, expecting me to identify which one I had. They had no record of what John had replaced for me over 10 years. I said, well, when John comes by to deliver them, can he go upstairs and take a quick look to make sure that he gives me the right one? Unbelievably, the answer was, "well, he will want to charge you for a service call". *To come upstairs to ensure that I get the right ones.* End of relationship. I now have whom I consider to be the world's greatest plumber. He was at my house yesterday and tested my water for hardness. The hardness is through the roof. My softener is not doing a **** thing. I had to call the manufacturer myself to find this out, whereas I thought I had a competent vendor to do this. My plumber took apart the softener and cleaned it out. Mr. Ryan, in all the years of "servicing" my system, never tested to make sure that it was working, even after I'd told him that I thought there was a problem. They need to occasionally have the filter media replaced; we need to choose the right media for my particular situation, and they need to have the filter heads cleaned. BTW, these are all revenue sources for a service-oriented company...just not this one. John seems to want to do the absolute minimum and not the absolute right thing. I am in the process of getting this corrected. I don't know what is in my water (yes, partially my fault, but I trusted "Trust" Water Solutions) but I'm taking steps to make sure that my water is safe. And going back to the top of this review, where I stated that I was reticent to leave a negative review, I contacted John through Jessica (again, he always hides behind her) and gave him the opportunity to provide me with a "pre-buttal" to my concerns but he declined to do so.
