Heating and Air Conditioning Service
We had purchased a new central A/C system (Carrier) from Martack; they did the entire installation, and we maintained an
annual service contract since the installation (I cannot recall the year, but it was in the mid to late 1990's. They redid some
portion of the duct-work from the central air that we had at that time, and installed the unit(s). They also redid ductwork and venting
during some interior home renovations in 2004, for which we, of course, paid. We still maintained the contract for all of these years.
Last summer (2012), we experienced the major leak/flood mentioned above. Tried reaching Martack, and no one returned the call, ever.
(In a prior call I had made, I had spoken with Kim @ Martack after they did perform the spring turn-on of the system, followed by the FIRST FLOOD. She sent another technician. When I inquired why I got a bill for canned CO2, she said it wasn't included in the contract, but also, as I asked when the clog would really be fixed, she said that another company, XXXXXXXXXX HVAC would be taking over the servicing for contracts.
After experiencing TWO FLOODS from the unresolved clog, we again had ANOTHER one. I phoned Martack, and never got a return call: Not that night when I called the special NIGHT number for emergencies, nor did I hear from them again from the messages I left.
I called XXXXXXXXX that night, they returned the call promptly, and they were here the next morning and finally fixed the clog.
MARTACK WAS OBVIOUSLYCLOSING DOWN, but did not ever notify long-time, loyal customers of this in any way, with a postcard a letter, nor a phone call to advise that another company would now be servicing existing contracts. When I questioned Kim as to why they had not done this, she told me that Mr. (Greg) Singer, the owner, was working on it.
Never happened.
IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THEY ARE OUT OF BUSINESS in terms of being an HVAC provider of installations or services.
I had recommended their company several times for major installations, both residential and commercial, on Long Island and in Manhattan, and Martack did get THAT business.
For whatever reasons they closed, they should have notified their long-time, loyal customers. They also let all of their long-time employees go...really, really not a way to close down a business.
Cannot imagaine how/why they are still on Angie's list.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service
They worked very quickly and efficiently. They installed my new compressor in about an hour or two and it has worked like a charm, without a hitch for the year since they put it in. They were friendly and organized but slightly overpriced. After living through a horrible experience with my previous service provider, I was willing to overpay a bit for the security and peace of mind knowing that I had a competent, licensed person working in my home. The only problem was that they spilled some oily substance on my driveway but it was an accident that was actually caused by the previous unit that they did not install so I don't hold it against them. They offered to help me clean it up but I ended up cleaning it myself.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service
Used substandard ducts, no drip pan in central unit upstairs to collect condensate or leakage, improper controls, none of required permits for outside units applied for, nor were we informed that such was required. Units then needed to move to roof and they refused to do any of the work. Additional charges over original estimate.
