Here is the downside, the absolute utter mess that he left behind for me to clean up. The job requires surfacing and sanding, much like drywall but with acrylic. There was an inch of dust left behind in the bathroom, all over the walls, furniture, windows, fixtures, EVERYTHING. I wish they had communicated the extent of the mess, as I would have made provisions, such as removing all decorative items and putting covers and plastic over the furniture and surfaces in the room. It would have made it easier to clean in the end. I would give them an outstanding grade on everything else but in my book a great contractor cleans up his work and leaves everything the way they found it.
I had to delay the decisin to have the reglazing. But, if in future, if
need similar work, will definitely call this company.
It was a breeze getting a quote, I just emailed some photos and he sent over a quote with a few different options (was redoing entire bath and he quoted new tile and removing/installing fixtures also. Becasue of the lead time to schedule the service I ended up doing the other work myself. I did have a problem confirming installation dates, and he screwed up the installation date and I had to reschedule once.
The work looks fine, much cheaper than new tub and tile.
Craig was friendly and professional, and worked quickly. Tub is nearly flawless, tile has some minor imperfections but otherwise came out very good. The overall job was very good.
Warning to those redoing their bathrooms: re-glaze FIRST. I was unaware, and it was not made clear, that this is a VERY messy process. During the initial phone call, I asked if I should cover everything in the bathroom. Craig said he would take care of everything. However, upon completion, everything in the bathroom was covered in a light coating of the paint. I had just replaced all the hardware in the bathroom and had to spend days scrubbing the sink, faucets, floor, towel bar, exhaust fan, toilet, cabinet knobs, etc. Had I covered everything in plastic myself, I would have been much more meticulous in protecting the rest of the room considering I had spent so much money on renovations. There is a reason this is the cheapest option when redoing your tub.
Also of note, I expected a brief conversation on care instructions but when I asked a couple of questions I was told it was and quot;all on the paperand quot; I was given.
"Having done at this point thousands of bathtub and tile refinishing jobs throughout the NYC tri-state area over the past eight years now allows me to give unit pricing over the phone as a means of expediting my quotation process down to a single phone call, after a of course a few meaningful questions that help me to understand what the potential clients exact circumstances are. I also take into account the location of the work to be done, which is why my pricing will vary from client to client. I gave to Member pricing based upon her location and my unit costs. For example; my unit cost for ceramic tile in Westchester County, NY is $9/sqft. So if you just have a tub surround the average square footage is between 50/sqft and 70/sqft which would equate to a cost of between $450 and $630 plus sales tax. If I am correct Member's bathroom also had tile wainscoting (tile half way up the walls in the rest of the bathroom) which would then make the average square footage between 120 and 150/sqft. All we have to do is the math, since with tile it is a per/sqft cost. Ultimately it is what it is, sqft and cost wise. Being a small outfit, just myself until recently, I give all of my refinishing quotes over the phone, I just cannot get to all of the locations of requested quotations and be out there during the day working and be able to function. There is simply not enough time for me to do that. So this is the trade off for me. Sometimes you get the job and sometimes you do not. One thing I can tell is this. Our work is unrivaled and no one does it better. We stand behind our work 100% for the length of our warrantee, which is five years against blistering, peeling and fading. This is what we offer to our clients, not excuses. The client has to make a decision at this point; Whether or not the cost is worth it to them. For some it is and for some it is not."
Please see statement above.
"Member contacted us in mid November by phone. We discussed what she was interested in doing and I gave her pricing over the phone and asked her to send me an email with her contact info. I never did receive the email. I replied to her phone message from 11/30/11 on 12/1/11. She immediately informed me that she had reservations about using our services and never gave me an opportunity to address her concerns about why I had not replied to her email, it never came up; her phone calls were responded to on the next day. Not being a forceful person when it comes to business, I did not want to push her and did say that the decision to hire me was hers. She chose not to which is fine. I do not ever expect to do work for everyone that contacts me; it just does not happen in any line of work. I would still do work for her if she was so inclined."
"There was obviously a miscommunication between the member and myself. While I am quite sure that she and I did have the discussion regarding the need for water, she obviously did not see it that way. My exasperation came from my recollection of our conversations and the fact that I drove over an hour to the house prepared to perform the requested work. I did offer to return to and do the work when I left."
