Interior Analysis
About us
Allan was born in 1944 and grew up in the Forest Hills, Queens section of NY. He attended both Pratt Institute and Parsons School of Design and immediately became a furniture designer upon graduation, working for esteemed firms including Zimmerman Design and Philip Bruce Inc. Allan has long bought, renovated and resold properties for a handsome profit, relying on his design skills and expertise in space and layout, including three brownstones on NYC’s Upper West Side. In the 1970’s Allan was instrumental in designing and creating several stores for Pottery Barn, also creating a custom closet department for the chain – a first in the country! He has lived in Woodstock for over 20 years, building, renovating and designing homes for himself and for clients as well as working with real estate agents and brokers in his Interior Analysis service. Allan is also an accomplished artist, beginning in the 1960’s when he participated in the Art Students League in New York. His paintings have been shown in OK Harris and Jackendoff Bocce in SoHo, NY, as well as General Electric Headquarters, Manhattan College and The Woodstock Artists’ Association. Once we decided on a plan and a budget, Allan went with me to pick out flooring, tile and other building materials; he also went with my wife to choose fixtures, wall coverings, paint, etc. During construction Allan visited often and interacted with the contractors, ensuring that they were performing quality work.
Allan has a unique (at least, for me) way of looking at empty space. We were so concerned about not breaking the space up so that it looked forced and also not leaving it so wide-open where we would have to buy a lot of furniture. In the end, the areas flow together naturally, there is lots of space but not really empty space, both rooms are very functional, and we didn't have to buy any furniture.
Allan kept us completely within budget, and in fact, what we saved in materials and fixtures (Allan knows where to buy things!) probably came close to his consulting fee. All in all, we are completed satisfied with his work and would recommend him highly. We
will work with him next year on redesigning our living room and kitchen areas.
