"Due to the snow on this customer's roof, I explained that in order to examine the problem, for safety reasons, we needed to wait for the over two feet of snow to melt and clear. I spoke with this customer weekly to assure him that I was just as concerned about his drip problem. The customer said that he could care less about my safety, and wanted me to climb onto the roof while covered with snow. My reputation is very important, however, his roof never had a problem during over dozens of heavy rain storms. When there is two feet of snow melting and re-freezing around a skylight, it can push up and around flashings. I communicated with the customer and will re-set the skylight unit as soon as we can access a snow-free roof."
After reading reviews here on AL, I decided to give Safe Choice a call and spoke with Brian (owner) and he was great! I explained that it wasn't a particularly big job but was hoping he could help and my he did not disappoint!!! I described my situation as best I could and that I had a few companies come out to give estimates. Most only willing to do completely new roofs and giving ridiculous quotes. Brian showed up on time and went up on the roof to get a better look at my specific situation and assess the problem. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me and picked up on what others may have been missing and/or doing wrong. He also explained that I my roof still has a few goods years of life left and thus no need at this time for a complete roof and he'd be glad take the job. We've had a couple heavy rain falls after and no more leak! I can't say enough good things about Safe Choice and Brian! Seems like an all around good guy, great to work with and I will definitely call him when I'm ready for the new roof. Which by the way he also gave me an estimate on in the event I decided to go that route and his quote was far better than most! Now knowing that he's a good guy who does great work, I wouldn't think twice to call him back.
Thanks Angie's List & Brian!!!

After discussing the probable cause of the leak, we were told the price and clearly told it included all necessary replacement wood costs. We also discussed a ridge vent - we have terrible ventilation in a dormered Cape - which he explained clearly and professionally.
Throughout the first visit it was a very relaxed sales pitch, and we were left with plenty of material regarding the shingles and possible colours etc.
We scheduled for a day roughly one week after, and the crew showed up promptly at 8am. Brian was there to start the work, and was onsite for much if not most of the job.
The prep included covering/tarping the entire front of the house and much of the lawn, the crew were all in hard hats and tied off, clearly a safe worksite. I was asked to move my cars, and asked to nudge my neighbour into moving his too, as the crew did not want debris falling onto the vehicles.
The job was completed well within the timeframe discussed, and the cleanup was extremely good, a particularly noteworthy point.
As noted, my garage received a complimentary replacement siding repair during the day, a very nice extra touch. On the roof itself we received a ridge vent and all new flashing on the chimney. We have two skylights on that side which took no damage. Overall the work appears to be very professional.
We did find an additional small hole in the decking once the shingles were removed, which was repaired as well. The price did not change from the original estimate.
Overall, a great chap and company to do business with, the roof looks great, I strongly recommend Safe Choice for your roof repairs and replacement.
Once the job began, the materials, Brian's crew, and the debris container all arrived when we were told to expect them. The crew worked diligently, and were responsive to any questions that we had. Importantly, Brian was very accommodating to several requests I had that enabled me to avoid having to go up on the roof at a later date myself (e.g. fabrication and installation of a custom-sized chimney cap, removal of obsolete satellite dishes, venting of existing bathroom exhaust fans through the roof, etc.).
Our roofing job was complicated by six existing skylights, that, while in good condition themselves, posed challenges to past roofers. As a result, Brian had to chip away lots of old roofing cement and deal with nail holes in the flanges. Nonetheless, we are convinced that our new roof has the same (high) integrity where it meets the skylights as it does everywhere else. We were impressed that Brian (among few of his competitors) did not insist on removing and resetting the skylights, or refuse to do the job unless he could also replace the skylights.
It was an event-free, stress-free job that gave us exactly what we wanted; i.e. the best possible roof that we won't have to think about for 50 years.
We called for an estimate on our roof in August of 2011. We had 3 companies come for the estimate. We found Brian in the local MINT magazine that comes in the mail. He had 15 years experience in roofing. licensed and insured in Nassau & Suffolk.
Safe Choice Roof Systems was the 3rd. WE chose Brian because, He is a family man with his wife Connie at home with the children and taking calls for the business. Always very pleasant and takes details of the calls. He seemed the most sincere of the 3 companies.
Explained in details what his company would do and how long it would take. With the pending Storm coming He said "I Want to have this job done for you before the rain so you have no problems. "We agreed. The materials were delivered and the workers began their job on time. The old roof was taken down to the bare wood. 1.They installed 6 inch wide Metal Drip-edge nailed to eaves to seal all roof eaves for leak prevention. 2.Installed GAF Weather Ice and Water Shield adhered to roof deck areas for ice dam prevention. 3. Installed GAF Shingle-Mate Roof Deck Protection to entire roof deck. This was the second layer of defence against wind driven rain. 4. Installed Pro-Starter shingles around entire perimeter. This sealed all edges to insure no wind blow-offs. 5. Intalled Roof Shingles with 6 nails per shingle. WE used Timberline Lifetime. 6. Installed Timbertex Hip & Ridge Cap Shingle. ( This cap has a 130 mph.wind protection.
7. Installed Ventilation System with a GAF Cobra Ridge vent.
All flashing around the chimney was replaced with copper ***
The complete roof project was registered for a GAF System Plus LTD Warranty for 50 years*** Safe Choice Materials & labor warranty for 15 years. Seamless Gutters and leaders were replace with white aluminum.
We also have flat roof that was replaced. Brian prepared & protected my home with tarps attached to the roof edges so all roof debris could slide down the tarps part the shrubs. Removed all layers of flat roofing down to the existing wood deck.
all debris was carted away in a dump truck that was on our driveway for both roofs. Rotted roof deck was replaced. They installed with rollers Asphalt Primer to roof deck. 2. Installed Liberty Rubber base sheet membrane to primed wood deck, 3. Installed Metal drip-edge to all roof edges. Replaced the flashing. 4. Installed Liberty granular Rubber rolled roofing over rubber base. Pictures were taken along the way of the job. However I misplaced them.
.We would highly recommend SAFE CHOICE ROOFS SYSTEMS INC for anyone. Big jobs or small ones. I called Brian back twice. Once for the flat roof, something that our son noticed needed to be touched up. Then the front gutter was leaking water from behind it. Brian came immediately on both calls. Support this family man with putting on a new roof.
"I can't begin to thank you for all of your trust and kindness!"
We set up a date for installation
Installation was done on time with excellent workers
Very well pleased
