Propane Sales Services
I had a terrible experience with this company. I have been a residential customer of theirs for nearly 20 years. Without notice they changed the terms of my contract. This change would have cost me hundreds of dollars a year in additional fees. When I protested, I got the old "I'll speak to management" line from my sales rep. Needless to say he never followed up and left me hanging for months. The only time I got a callback from him was when I told him I'm canceling my accounts with them. Their fees to empty and remove the propane tanks seemed outrageous, considering it was their fault I had to dismiss them. I suppose they got their pound of flesh after all.

Great service, never had a problem and we've been with them now for over 3 years. They also rebuilt our pool heater burners and it works better than new!

We are not going to use them anymore because I have a small oil furnace. I have a contract and it is like really expensive. I have a new oil tank. We have natural gas in our lines here. It is too late because I have the oil tank so I am not going to hook up to the natural gas. I am going to drop Halstead. I like them but you can do cash oil here. I had an instance where my sister was living with me. The furnace was on cash oil, it was old and it blew up. I freaked out. My friend got me a furnace. I had no money. I just said just get a furnace. It is oversized for this house. I had to have Halstead come in. I don't know much about it but something about the cold air had to come in. They did whatever they had to do. I should have just replaced the furnace. Something else happened and it was just a ridiculous amount of money. I am going to switch oil companies because it is $300 a year just to have the service contract. That is like ridiculous. We are going to look around. We are thinking of going back to the cash oil for a while and save. We don't really use it much. We do not have any kids or anything. I like it cold but of course the husband and dogs are frozen to the floor. I have used them for a long time. Each delivery, we have a 500 gallon tank. We pay like $2.79 a gallon, something ridiculous. Overall, they are pretty good. They are too expensive with the service contract. If their service contract was more reasonable, more people would sign up with them. They are tripled in price in one year so I am not going to go with them. Their quality of oil is good. They are pretty good with responsiveness and punctuality. If you have a service call, they are pretty good. I do not feel they are professional. I would use them again. I like having the service contract.

I was satisfied with the price and their response to my needs, and that?s why chose them.

We bought our home in september and have since had 3 fill ups. First time using propane for home heating so there was a learning curve but so far from what ive read online of what and what not these companies should be doing. Halsted is doing a good job.

Propane Sales Services
I would not recommend you do
business with Halstead Quinn under ANY circumstances. In case the other online
reviews left you doubtful as to their incompetence, allow me to add my two
cents/horror story. Earlier this year I purchased a house where HQ provided
propane service ? there was one 60-gallon tank rented from the company and
three 120-gallon tanks that I OWN that they fill. After researching prices and
reviews, I decided to switch companies (to Hoffman Energy, who I highly
recommend). After the new company came to install their own 60-gallon tank,
they contacted Halstead to come remove their rental tank, which was moved (for
their convenience) to the front yard of my house from its original location in
the woods and down a hill.
After three weeks (and as many
phone calls), Halstead finally made an appointment to remove their tank.
Unbeknownst to me, they also removed the three (full) 120-gallon tanks from my
property without my permission. When my generator initiated its automatic weekly
test, it failed and indicated a fault. I called a generator company, only to
find out that there was no propane supply to the generator. It quickly became
clear what had happened and when I contacted Halstead, the woman in the service
department became flustered and transferred me to a manager, Jerry. In fairness,
Jerry was very friendly and helped to the greatest extent he could. He arranged
for my tanks to be returned the following Saturday morning. When they arrived,
two were full, one was empty and the driver refused to install the tanks unless
I clear-cut the shrubs in my yard so he could have easy access. When I refused,
he took the tanks back to Halstead to be emptied so they were more manageable
(keep in mind that they managed to remove the tanks when they were full). The
empty tanks were returned the following Monday and filled on Tuesday.
I thought this nightmare was
finally over ? the only thing I was waiting for was a check for the propane
that was rightfully taken in the 60-gal tank and the reimbursement for the bill
from the generator company (which Jerry assured me would not be a problem). Unfortunately,
after over a week of non-response, Jerry had to escalate the matter to someone
named Glenn who is one of the rudest, most condescending people I?ve had the
displeasure of speaking with.
When Glenn finally called, he told
me he was calculating the amount I owed Halstead for additional propane his
driver accidentally delivered to my house when he filled the tanks because ?he
thinks I would want to pay for a service I received.? He also told me that I
would be charged over $80 for the pick up of the 60-gal tank. When I made it
clear that I did not intend to pay him for anything, that he did not provide a ?service?
to me but in fact stole my property, his next ploy was to demand closing
documents from the sale of my house to prove I was the owner of the propane
that he had no problem removing in the first place.
This nonsense started June 7 when
Halstead took my property and finished in mid-August when I finally received my
payment in full. But based on their underhanded business practices, rude
management and overall incompetence, I cannot recommend anyone allow Halstead
Quinn to work on their property.

Burke Heat was prompt, and even though they made a special visit only to read the level of oil in the tank for the change over from one tenant to the next at my rental cottage, they did not charge for the visit. This is consistent with my other experiences with Burke Heat. At times their prices may be a little higher than their competitors, but there are other times that the reverse is true, so I would say that their prices are definitely reasonable. I have a service contract with them and they have helped me a few times at no charge. Their customer service representatives are friendly and helpful and their technicians are usually prompt, friendly, and experienced. My only minor complaint is that they once or twice failed to call me on my cell phone when they were on their way, so I wasn't at the cottage when they arrived and they had to come back when I followed up a little while later. They did come back though without requiring another appointment on a later day. I have been very pleased with Burke Heat during the little over a year that I have been with them.

They are very good, very thorough. They are friendly and easy to deal with. It is a small company, so it is much more personalized than some of the larger ones. I would refer them to others.

The guy that came out was kind of bad mouthing the company that I also got an estimate from. I really liked the other company. They seemed to be lying about some things. The last tank they brought out was from 1940. If they see a tank that is not up to par they are supposed to exchange it but they have been servicing that tank for twenty years. I told them its a sixty year old tank and they are lucky I don't sue. Only then did they care about responding to me.

We recently purchased a home with a propane tank that powers the cook top and hot water heater. The hot water heater was not working and we wanted an estimate to have it replaced. Since Halstead Quinn had provided the tank and service for the home in the past, we called them first. My husband made an appointment for a Saturday and was told a rep would arrive in the morning. Nobody ever showed up. When we tried to call them on Saturday there was nobody in their office to answer the phone. They never called to follow-up and we've never called them back. We will not be getting a hot water heater from them and are actually now looking to get rid of our propane service all together.
