Jim (Furniture Medic) has 2 locations listed: 11 Tulip Lane, Monroe, NY and NJ. He told us that he lists his business address in both states, so that customers will call from either state. Jim inspected all of the damage prior to giving us an estimate and assured us that he did repairs like ours all the time and he was confident that he could do the work. On Tuesday (6/4/13), our appointment was between 10:30-11:00AM and he called at 11:00AM to let me know that he'd be late. No problem. He arrived at 11:30AM. A few of the repairs were done to the point where they were no longer noticeable however, most of the repairs were below average and done poorly. The color matches were off (wrong colors used). No steamer was used to raise dents as we were originally told (written on the estimate). The few dents (dings, gouges) that he decided to fill, were done with a soft, white product that never dried. The color that he painted over top of these is now flaking/rubbing off. The filled-in repairs were not filled in fully, just partially filled. So nothing is flush, and everything is bumpy and noticeable. Nothing was sanded and the repair surfaces are not smooth. Additionally, Jim said he'd bring replacement glass panel retaining clips that were broken on one of our cabinet doors (written on the estimate) but he forgot to bring them. He told me that I could go buy them at Home Depot. (I did check Home Depot; they don't sell them). Before he left, he sprayed his "repairs" with some kind of fixative. We now have cabinet and table tops that feel like they have hairspray sprayed on them (kind of rough and gritty) in sections. Jim told us that he stands by his work and could come back and try to re-do certain repairs (even HE knew they looked bad) but that usually, "the more you mess with it, it just looks worse". His words, not mine. That being said, we decided to not have him come back. Jim was a nice enough guy but it was painfully obvious that he doesn't have the skills required to do quality furniture repair. This is our 9th household move. We've had furniture repairs done after each one of these moves and we've never encountered anything like this before. We paid $375 for 3 hours ($195 for the first hour and $95 for each additional hour). I am now searching for a new furniture repair service to repair Jim's "repairs".
