We had our roof replaced and the GFI circuit failed. I thought it was caused by the roofers using the outdoor GFI plugs that had not been used since the house was built 25 years ago. The electrician came the next day and worked for 4 hours to replace corroded parts and confirm that all of known parts were working one by one as he methodically tested each one. The circuit still had a short that evening. The next day he brought his boss and found that someone had added the Radon fan to the circuit. The fan is in the attic and was disturbed by the roofers. I was never charged for the extra two hours spend by the company's owner. Considering how tricky the problem was and the extensive labor, I feel that the price was very fair.
Description of Work: We had a short in our GFI circuit both indoor and outdoor. This circuit also included some standard outlets. The problem turned out to be a Radon fan in the attic that had been spliced into the circuit at a later time. The electricians methodically and laboriously (lots of stair climbing) tracked down this tricky problem. While they were at it I had them replace the old corroded outdoor GFI receptacles. I expected a lot bigger bill considering the time involved was over 6 hours and several parts.
