John Whigham company came when they said they would and cleaned up very well. The work, roofing for my home and garage, replacing the shingles on the front of the house plus some minor pointing work on the front porch and walkway, was done quickly. Though one of the shingles fell off about a month later (the shingles on the front dormer) they came quickly and reinstalled it properly. So, why the poor review? 5 years after the job was done I had a leak in my kitchen. I've had 5 professional roof installers come and all of them stated that the work done around the rear dormer was improper. They all independently stated that the flashing was done improperly, that is, the step flashing was never changed and there was no ice flashing installed and this resulted in a leak. Worse, the labor guarantee was for ONLY ONE YEAR which is the abysmal when compared to the industry standard of 5 to 10 years. He refused to fix the problem and so now the entire rear roof has to be removed and redone. Additionally, though I should have done more homework at the time to compare prices, he overcharged based on my subsequent researching, by almost $7,000 and this was confirmed by other roofers who were subsequently asked for an estimate. He is always trying to upsell, a minor criticism, but it can be very annoying as I get the feeling that he's more interested in making a buck than doing the work. Based on his warranty alone I never should have contracted with John Whigham and I don't think anyone should.

I originally had contracted to have my chimney re-pointed. ?The mason alerted Paul Whigham to the fact that there was damage to my second story roofing. -- which they showed me. ?I contracted for them to replace all of my roofing and gutters. ?Thankfully, I did so. ?When they removed the second story roofing there was a great amount of rotted wood -- so they had to replace the "boarding" for that story. ?(The roofing was only 18 years old but apparently not a "good job" when done at that time). ?I found the crews to be extremely punctual, meticulous about their work, and very polite. ?All debris was totally cleaned up and taken away. ?I also found Paul to be extremely honest when it came to pricing and also about the additional work that was needed (Ie, replacing the second story boards, etc.). ? Overall, although an unexpected experience, a good one.

Everything went fabulous. It is normally a very messy job, but John and his team was immaculate. They were so clean I could not find a trace of them any where. They were quick, clean and professional. They were eager to please and I am very impressed.

Excellent crew. Showed up when they were supposed to. Hardworking. Nice guys -- they understand English, although mostly of Mexican origin probably. Above being nice, they are very competent and work well together. Also, they respected that my neighbors driveway had to be cleared of nails, and every night they swept it-- broom clean. My neighbors never complained.

Paul Whigham, who managed my job, was highly responsive. He listened to my concerns throughout the job. He answered all of my cell phone calls within 5 minutes, even once while standing on a roof.

Paul has a good eye for detail around a home and was able to zone right in on problems I did not even see. The job expanded, but in retrospect I am glad we did what we did. First, he told me that better to redo the roof, if I'm going to do the siding. That really did make sense. Also he noticed the chimney was slanting away from the house, so he took it down and waterproofed it and rebuilt it. Another thing is that we did not know what was below the siding, so Paul advised us to rip down all the old beaver board which was shredding. We also ended up redoing all of the windows that bordered on the siding as Paul felt that would be best to not have any leaks.

Paul  uses very good products -- the siding and the roofing products have very long warranties. The company delivered everything on a timely basis. Also, Paul's office person is very good about sending the paperwork for the warranties. Also, I did want to mention that John Whigham Inc is a certified installer for the product, which makes the warranties good.

If you are looking for someone, I would advise you to use Paul, (who is John Whigham's brother) but try to get into the "what ifs" up front. So, if you are doing the siding, before he pulls it down, try to get a price on the rip of the old insulation if that becomes necessary. Also, ask him to oversee the job as a whole up front so you know what you are getting into before a nail is pulled. Again, let me stress, I don't think he led me to do anything that I did not need to do, it's just that he wants to do the job right and so do you, so get a better idea of the costs up front. Also, if he sends out the sales person, that's fine to get a rough estimate, but don't sign anything until Paul sees the job. Paul will be the day to day manager, so don't sign anything until he sees it.

Paul is very reliable, and, actually is a very good salesman. He may come off as aggressive, which could put you off, but I do, in retrospect believe that it comes from a sincerity that he will do the job right. And he did do the job right. It was money well spent. And the house looks great!

My husband found him and he did a good job. The guys were nice. They took out my mother's windows which were whole windows because I guess they were saving some of the glass, but they did a good job. I was here when the men were at work. They were cautious. The problem was when they did my siding, they didn't tell me to take down the plates off my wall and I thought that was not right because if they are hammering on my wall, I've got plates on the other side hanging which was worth a lot of money, and that's not really great. I even said to him that he should have told me to take my plates. He said he didn't even think about that. He was hammering on the side and anything on the walls would throw out around the house. The roof looks really nice. It looks good. It was a very big project. I wasn't here for most of it but I was here after a while because I had to go to North Carolina, my brother was in the hospital for a while. I wasn't here but my husband was. We have a long driveway so we allowed them to put the truck in the yard to make the work a little easier than trying to put it into the street. The guys were really good. Some of the guys who came were Spanish but they understood and they worked as a team. I never saw a team that really worked together and this team really worked together and talked to each other. When there was a problem, they always talked about it or called the boss because most of the time the boss wasn't here because he was in another job, but his men were always here and always on time and punctual. They should have told me to take the things off the walls that they were going to bang on. I would have been a little nicer if they told me. We also got screen doors on each side of the house so that was nice and we have a nice door. Our front door still has a skeleton key to get in to, but it's still a nice, strong door so I wouldn't change it for nothing.

Two days before the appt. a man called to confirm, and I told him that I had purchased a deal from Angie's List.  He wasn't aware of any deal!  When he arrived on Monday, 5/4 I again mentioned the Angie's List deal--but again he had no idea what I was talking about and wasn't aware of what he was supposed to do.  He was a much older man who didn't come prepared to climb on the roof for an inspection and/or do a minor repair as listed in the deal I purchased.  At first he tried to tell me I needed a new roof and then when he realized the roof wasn't in bad shape (except for 1 minor item which I hoped he could fix), he tried to tell me that I needed new front steps and that they do that kind of work too.  I kept bringing him back to the fact that I had already purchased the $149 deal from Angie's List and that's what the appt. was for, but he didn't respond because he didn't know about the deal!  I showed him the copy of the Angie's deal and said that part of the deal was to do a minor roof repair so I was hoping that 1 shingle at the top of the roof could be replaced since it had blown off in one of our wind storms (we don't have a leak now).  After giving me a quote for the repair of the front steps, he said that he was sure as a favor that he could send someone over on the way to another roofing job to replace the shingle but he couldn't say when.  I called the Whigham office on May 8 because no one had come to the house as he promised, and I was told that she would tell John (the owner) and Andy (who had come to the house).  I never received a return call, so called again on May 15.  She again told me that she would tell John and Andy, but a week later (a over a month since the initial appt.), I haven't received a phone call a month later.  I would like a refund of the $149 I paid because no service was rendered.

All work was performed well. The only glitch came when they first re-did our front stoop and the steps were uneven. They redid the whole stoop and didn't charge me any extra money.  There were periods of radio silence between jobs, apparently the staff at the office either didn't receive our phone messages or lost them, but once we reached the company, work was re-started.  We highly commend Winston who did the floors and lattice work. He was great and professional and timely.  We also liked Bill Murray, the person that represented the company and came to the house at first to provide an estimate, as well. The electricians and Freon contractors that the company used were also excellent.

Workers showed at 10:30 ate lunch at 11 and packed up at 2:30. A three week job took over six weeks. Granite installed and then workers place tools on it and scratched it. Painters did not sand before painting. Backsplash installed incorrectly. Cabinets were knicked during installation. Workers did not measure correctly and the dishwasher did not open. The contractor cut the draw to allow dishwasher to open leaving exposed wood. Tile not grouted and there are gaps that will allow water to get through . I have pictures documenting all of this, including a worker sleeping on my back porch..

He has the nicest workers, they are punctual and accomodating. They are very responsible and I plan continuing using them in the future. He is coming to do some landscape paving this week. Paul Whigham is the representative that I dealt with at this company.

He was was punctual. He ripped out the old roof. He discovered that some of the siding and railing had to be  replaced therefore the cost was much higher than the original estimate. However I believe his assessment was fair. He wanted to do the best job he possibly could. His workman were an efficient team. So far the roof has not leaked.

We felt that the vendor pushed to do repairs that weren't needed. Kept suggesting full roof replacement even after we explained that we could not afford it at the time. The cost was more than we expected. The work performed was good though. We would use them again.

The entire team was extremely punctual and professional. From the minute the tree limbs (and they were large one's and high up) were cut to the last snippet of debris, they were fast clean and I am so pleased with the results. The original damage was due to Sandy and to top it off they were there to do the work a few days after I called them I am very happy with the results and their professionalism and caring.

They were wonderful. Their were maybe (10) people on the roof on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend to finish the work. I was very pleased with their work. They were very responsive and dependable. They were very nice, professional and answered all of my questions. They did an excellent job in fixing the water leak in the kitchen and you couldn't tell they were even there. They also replaced the roof with new gutters as well.

They came in and sealed the leaks from the outside of the foundation by fist exposing it from top to bottom. They then applied sealer, insulator and a frost barrier. After that they put the ground and shrubbery back. Only one old bush didn’t take after the uproot and replant but we are still very pleased with the results and would hire this company again.
