This company needs a credit card information before they send a technician. The non union technician was billed at $ 177/hr. A 1.5 hour rounded to 2 hr, diagnosis for my 17 KW Generator was initially billed $500.00. (labor) for a technician and an assistant. A ground fault control wire was diagnosed. No estimate for repair was given. No repair was carried out except replacing 5 feet of wire which did not solve the problem. Before you call this company, ask for a fixed diagnostic charge. Not a open ended time and material. Do not give your credit card information ahead of a repair /service request. They will charge you an arm and a leg when the bill comes in the mail.
Response from JHACS Electric, Inc.

"Yes, this is true that we need a customers credit card information on file before sending a technician; however, we do not charge anything to said card without the cardholders authorization. In your case we could not give an estimate for the work because you had an issue with your generator not working properly and we didn't know the scope of work involved to solve the problem. Neither the technicians nor the office staff received a request from you for an estimate at any point during our two hour appointment. We were working quickly and diligently to resolve the multitude of issues you were having. Pricing comes from the office, which you were aware of before our arrival as we went over our rates with you. Of the total amount billed ($577.52) $499.00 was labor, which you were aware of before the appointment. The material cost was a small percentage of the overall cost. Your generator installation was poorly done and as a result the interconnecting control wiring from your transfer switch to the generator failed. We replaced a section of defective wiring from the outdoor pull-box to the generator. When we re-tested the wring after this replacement we found the wiring going through the house (finished basement) to the pull-box was also defective. This is something we would give an estimate for but you insisted on having your own men perform the work. Upon troubleshooting the generator operation we found the starter motor control relay was defective which we replaced and tested. We could not leave you with a working unit because the control wiring through the house still had to be replaced. I'm sorry you feel you had such a negative experience with our firm but we were as transparent as possible throughout the process and you were present on-site and aware of everything we were doing during our short visit. On more than one occasion you commented on the quality workmanship of myself and my fellow technicians which is why this negative review comes as a surprise to us."

JHACS is probably expecting this review since I voiced my unhappiness with their service and they refused to remedy it. I hired them to install an outdoor outlet for an electric vehicle. I told them I need an enclosure with a 14-50 outlet. Install day they showed up 3 hours late and gave me some lame excuse about an emergency when in fact they booked me for the wrong time. I would feel better if you acknowledge you made a mistake. I took a day off when I only need to take 1/2 day. The two men that showed up were no older than 30y/o which concerned me. They showed up with their supplies and also arrived with the wrong cable size, 8AWG romex. I had to argue with them to use the correct cable size. The EV would be pulling 40A continuous for 10 hours and any good electrician would want to use a 6AWG for a long run. They wanted to charge me extra to use the correct cable size. It was apparent to me they chose cheaper materials to cut costs. We settled for the difference and the install went ahead. A few weeks later I received the car and charger plug doesn't fit in the box. The receptacle was mounted upside down without enough clearance to plug in. Again I voiced my disappointment and surpise, they wanted to charge me extra to come and fix it. When you ask for a finished product and the product doesn't meet the needs of the customer, you fix it. The outlet is now completely useless. Needless to say I won't be using JHACS again. If you decide to use them get everything in writing and pay with a credit card so you can dispute when things go wrong.
Response from JHACS Electric, Inc.

"Thank you for taking the time to write your review, we value your feedback. I'm sorry to hear you had a sub-par experience with our service and I hope we can make it up to you. We actually did have an emergency related to an automatic standby generator for one of our good clients in which one of the technicians involved in your job was a part of. We are sorry for the delay but existing clients who pay for the privilege of having our services available to them 24/7 during a power outage take priority over new clients. I'm sure you understand but regardless, we should have reached out and communicated the circumstances to you and for that I apologize. You communicated to us during the initial consultation that the EV, although on a 50 ampere circuit breaker, would only be drawing a maximum of 32 amperes. You made this clear because we initially suggested upgrading the existing 100 ampere service given the fact that you would be adding a 50 ampere load to an already existing full 100 ampere panel. A 32 ampere load running at full capacity over three hour period would constitute a continuous load. Your insistence, however, on using the larger wire created some logistical complications for us as we had to physically bring the wire to your job from another location while the men on-site had to standby and wait for the delivery. Furthermore you did not compensate us for the full difference in price between the smaller and larger wire but instead compensated what you thought was reasonable. Regardless, in the interest in getting the job done we went ahead and finished the work for you. You did not have the car charger on-site at the time so we couldn't be sure of the orientation of the receptacle. When you reached out to us weeks later looking for help you acknowledged that 1. we did nothing wrong and 2. you didn't realize the orientation of the charger would be in the manner that it was."

Chris was very professional and helpful as he walked my through the process of having a generator installed. JHACS took care of preparing all of the paperwork for the town permits and arranging the inspections. The electrical and plumping work was high quality. I highly recommend using JHACS.

Been using them for almost 2 years now.  First found them when my generator stopped working and did not know how to fix.  Called, they came out fixed the problem. Did go with a service contract with them and would highly suggest it.  It is worth every penny and then some.  They come out twice a year for maintenance.   Highly recommended.

Response from JHACS Electric, Inc.

"We were contacted through Angie's list by [member name removed] several weeks ago regarding a complaint he has with our company. We have no record of ever working for him. We responded and asked him when we worked for him and specifically what the complaint was. He responded that it was about five years ago and he had a problem with the work that was done. As we have no record of ever working for him, and now that we have his address, no record of ever working at that address, we cannot comment further. Perhaps he has us confused with another electrical contractor?"

They seem to be ok. They are a little high priced but at least they show up! Our other person never showed up.

So far we haven't had a problem but so far our generator has been working fine. I have nothing to complain about.

the visit went very well.  The Tech explained what had happened and what he will be doing to get the unit back up and working. After he finished, he went over everything he did and also that it will now have a new self test time.  He replaced what need to to be replaced.  Will definitely call them again and will be signing a service agreement with them to help maintain the unit.
Service was excellant.

It went fine. We had to redo a connection, because they didn't hook it up properly the first time. They came out and redid it. We also had a gas smell and we had to call them back. Then they changed something and it got better.

The website says that they handle or cover the area of my residence, however, when we called them we were informed that they do not service the area.
Response from JHACS Electric, Inc.

"I am sorry for not being in the area, we will be able to take care of you come January. Generac's website says we service this area, but we do not yet. Sorry for the inconvenience"

The process went very well and we are very happy with the finished product.  This was a multi-step process, requiring the involvement of numerous entities beginning with obtaining a permit from our Town's Building Department which went very smoothly.  All of the staff at JHACS were friendly and very responsive and explained the details as the work progressed.   The other companies involved included a plumber who was contracted by JHACS, along with a landscaper for trench digging and re-filling and National Grid for gas-piping and meter upgrading. All of this work was coordinated by JHACS.   Multiple safety inspections were also necessary which have given us a high level of comfort.  When the work was completed, JHACS visited and demonstrated how the generator works, the necessary maintenance and what we are responsible for monitoring.  JHACS was careful, professional and I highly recommend them.

It all went as expected.
First step was for them to draw up the plans for me to submit to the town for a permit.
Then the generator was installed which required both electrical and plumbing (natural gas) work to be done.  The house had no power for about 3 hours when this was being done.
Then 2 inspections were done, one for the plumbing and the other for the electrical work.
At this point, the generator was operational, but the project was not yet complete.
The walk through is when all questions were answered.  In my case, a wiring change had to be completed to comply with a modified electrical code requirement.
Natural Grid had to come and upgrade my gas meter (no charge).

JHACs is the main supplier of electric back-up generators in my area. I called once, and was brushed off. On a second call, an appointment was made for an estimate. A very capable young man surveyed the house and property, and explained that, since I lived in New York City and not adjoining Nassau County, local regulations made it difficult for them to install a standby generator, but that it would be possible to install a large portable generator and do the related electrical work. I asked him to send me a quote, specifying two sizes of portable generator. After more than a week, I called to inquire about the quote, speaking to the receptionist. At around the three-week point, I called again, and the receptionist said that the quote had been sent out to me a few days before -- but it had not, because I use email all the time and check it regularly, and nothing had arrived. I then asked the receptionist to forward me the quote, which only dealt with one portable generator, one smaller than I wished. I had some followup questions, and called them in, once again to the receptionist. To these, the young man responded in an email that his boss was not interested in doing the work in New York City, although my house is located less than 4 miles away from the JHACs location. I am disappointed by the reluctant service, the lack of interest in a paying customer, and the lost time on my end.

It went great. They were very prompt. They were able to do the job within two days of me calling them on very short notice, especially since it was during the hurricane. That was great. It made it a positive thing. They came one day, took two hours on site and then were done.

This is the second time we've used them. We find them to be professional and very prompt. The people in the office go out of their way to be helpful, especially Judy. We scheduled this after discovering there was no power to the pool heater and pool area lights in a home we recently bought; the area was a tangled mess caused by the removal of a small building. They not only installed and fixed as we asked them to, but also discovered that there was a second meter, of which we were unaware, that controlled the area and had been turned off by LIPA. They helped us to file the paperwork to get it turned on.

I have lived in my house for 30 years and have never been ripped off like this.
Response from JHACS Electric, Inc.

"We understand his frustration, but we stand by our diagnosis of his problem and that the wiring through the crawl space was faulty and had to be replaced. We've been a member of the Great Neck community for many years and depend on repeat business from the community. We always give out customers' the benefit of the doubt when it comes to warranty issues. But his problem surfaced 28 months later and was unrelated to his original problem."
