This was serviced on May, 2013. We had no problems; however, I paid $254.04 for this service call and Access noted he needed to
"come back for hole in drain pan."
He said it would be better to do this after the hot weather. Meanwhile, the hole was still in the drain pan leaking water in my attic.
On July 12, 2013, the unit blower wasn't working and we called Access. He came here and told us we need a new unit! It was 5 yrs old! He said he had to go to Albany and get a new unit. This cost me $721.17.
On this bill for the new unit, he also noted "have to come back to drain pan."
We called Access on Oct. 13, 2013; did not hear back. Called again on Nov. 4, 2013 and left message for him to call and make an appointment to fix drain pan!
Because he never fixed the hole in the drain pan, all the water leaked on the floor of the attic; I have mold, mildew and rust in my attic. We hired someone else and it cost us at minimum $3,000.00 to replace unit and CLEAN BLACK MOLD.
I have lymphoma and I've been breathing in mold spores all summer!
Access is a despicable company who DOES NOT stand by their work. Maybe they can do "simple" things, but NEVER hire them for complicated work.
Four contractors proposed on this project (Boiler and Oil tank only). The estimate from Bernie ranked second lowest in cost. His proposal specified the smallest sized boiler (50% smaller than the one being replaced). This made sense to me given that everything I read stated that nearly all of the old boilers are grossly over-sized and thus energy inefficient (think of the gas mileage for cars with bigger than necessary engines). I also downloaded some free software and did a quick and dirty household heat-loss calculation, which verified Bernie's recommended boiler size. The other three contractors either recommended a boiler size roughly equal to the old one or did not specify the size of the boiler to be installed (completely unacceptable). Additionally, Bernie was the only contractor that noticed that the old furnace was set at a high standby temperature, which was wasteful since the internal heating coils for hot tap water were no longer employed.
Based on the level of confidence I had in Bernie, I expanded the project scope to include the installation of radiant floor heating on our living room floor (which has a lot of windows and skylights). This change from baseboard heating helped eliminate any cold drafts in this room.
The various installations went very well. Bernie and his team were always prompt, organized and tidy. My preliminary calculations suggest that our fuel oil usage has gone down by 25% (as estimated using daily heating-degree-days) and our house feels warmer. Bravo Bernie and Access Heating!
