Speedway Service

For some reason, it seems NYC Air Conditioning folks are not eager for jobs. A couple of places I called never got back to me. Another one came out and gave me a ridiculously high estimate. Then, when I called them back to suggest some changes, I left several messages -- but the calls were never returned. And these calls were during the winter months, when I assumed their business would be slow. Finally, a friend upstairs in our building recommended that I call Chris at a company they'd just used -- Speedway. And, boy, am I glad I listened to their advice! Speedway responded right away, and within the week, sent someone out to give us an estimate. The estimate itself was faxed to us within a day. I was a bit worried that the estimate didn't look as if this company was very professional, but the price was considerably lower than the other company, and I had been impressed by the person who had come here to measure. Plus I did have our neighbor's recommendation... As it turned out, our co-op's management company know Speedway very well, and they use them to handle air-conditioning needs for other buildings that come under this management (Cooper Square) umbrella. The only delay was between Speedway and Cooper Square -- details to do with the insurance information that was required, and the form in which it was sent. However, once that was sorted out, I was called right away by Speedway who said they were ready to go ahead. It took just over a week for the units to be ordered and the appointment for installation set up. They came out today and did a wonderful job installing the new air conditioners. The new units are smaller (though more powerful) than the old ones, and the surrounding space was carefully and expertly finished off. I wish we'd found Speedway years ago!
