Throughout the process, he would repeatedly tell me he'd take care of something by a particular date - not only would he fail to do so (often not completing the task until weeks later), but I wouldn't hear anything from him when the date came and went, so I'd have to contact him to find out what was going on (at which point he was usually very slow to respond).
A typical experience: In early November, he came to supposedly complete the punch list. He left without giving me a chance to do a walk-through, and when I got home, I discovered that he had failed to finish several items, and others had been done very poorly. When I contacted him, he insisted he was totally done and would not be coming back. Among the issues, some wall tile in the bathroom clearly had not been installed properly. Sure enough, a few hours later, the tile fell off the wall. I emailed him, and he didn't respond. When I contacted him again, he refused to give me a date for when he would fix the tile and the other problems. It was nearly a month before he even confirmed a date. Five weeks passed from when the tile fell off the wall and when he returned to fix it.
The most disturbing incident, though, was that he removed the smoke detector outside the kitchen while electrical work was going on, and it didn't occur to him that was extremely dangerous until I realized several days later I had no smoke detector there and pointed out to him how unsafe that was.
