We purchased wood flooring through Bethel Floor Covering and also paid for a Bethel representative, Jeremy Bethel, to professionally install the new floor in April of 2011. In October 2011, I noticed that the floor was "cupping", parts of the floor were buckling and planks were coming up. We contacted the installer, Jeremy Bethel, of Bethel?s immediately. He came to my house and explained he could easily fix the buckling and loose planks but the cupping issues were due to the flooring not being cured properly by the manufacturer. He stated that he would need to replace the entire floor. I arranged for a representative of Mulican Flooring to come to my home to inspect the damaged wood floors. From this visit, Mulican has provided me with a report that states that these issues are due to installation errors. The report also specifies that there is moisture under the wood causing this damage and the installer (Bethel?s) did not use the proper moisture barrier when installing. The inspector also noted that the installer did not leave enough of a gap around the perimeter and interior walls to allow for expansion. In November 2011, Jeremy stated that he did not have the resources to replace the floor immediately. I told Jeremy that I would be reasonably patient until he was able to do so. He stated that he would keep in touch with us and was confident that within a few months he could replace the floor. I tried several times in January, February and March 2012 to reach Jeremy and did not get return calls. Jeremy did not pick up our calls or return a call until the middle of April 2012, at that time he said he would begin work to replace the damaged floors the first week of May 2012. Despite countless phone messages and unanswered calls, I never heard from him again. I called the owner of Bethel's in November 2012 and John Bethel came to my house in December 2012. John also agreed that the floor needed to be replaced.John stated that he should have made us sign a waiver knowing that there was a risk involved with installing hardwood on a slab. However, he stated that I should assume partial responsibility because I should have researched online the risks involved for installing hardwood flooring on a cement slab. In conversations with Jeremy prior to installation-he assured us that he could safely install up to a 4inch wide plank without any problems. I explained to John that I hired and paid a professional because I don?t know how to install a wood floor and trusted that a licensed professional would. After our discussion, John agreed and stated that he would get back to me after the holidays and schedule the replacement of the floors. John called on 1/9/13 and advised me that he had no intentions of replacing my floor. John proposed that I buy the floors again and he would do the installation, again not taking any responsibility for the issues. As a paying customer, I expect the professionals I hire to have the knowledge, know-how and ability to install a floor correctly therefore; I should not have to pay for anything since Bethels Floor Covering should have done the job correctly in April of 2011.
