So I've used Massapequa Hospital for Animals for many years . I've spent a lot of money with them . I've recommended tons of people to them since I'm a local pet sitter and my 250 clients always ask my opinion when they have issues with their pets . So in the last 2 months my 10 year old cat Harry has had issues . Losing weight , not eating well . I brought him in and saw Dr . Fish. He told me my cat needed dental work ASAP . That was the reason for his issues . So of course do it . $1,200.00 dollars and within a few days he was still having issues . Not eating , pawing at his mouth . In pain . I call daily to let the doctors know that something was wrong . Only to have Dr Joi P tell me it wasn't his teeth. Knowing the veterinary field because I've worked it for many years I ask them to run tests. Which they fought but finally did . After 3 weeks of my poor Harry not eating and loosing a lot of weight. I told them he needs to come back and have his mouth checked . Well surprise . His mouth was like raw meat . He had dental issues even after this original dental. So now Dr Joi said he has a mouth infection and has to have most of his teeth removed . I asked her if this would help him and she said yes . So off to his second procedure in 3 weeks . Under anesthesia again . Not heathy for a 10 year old cat who has been not eating and already in a state of his immune system already compromised. More surgery to remove almost all his teeth. I asked her if the teeth she left should be removed also. She told me no . A few days and no change in his health . Calls and more calls and nothing done . Pain medication given but not working . I was told it's not his mouth. My poor cat still in pain and nothing done by Massapequa Hospital for Animals . Finally I went to a board certified veterinary dentist . Dr Carmichael who saw him and told me he had to remove all his remaining teeth . Another round of anesthesia and the risk of him not waking up after the procedure . Well surprise Dr Carmichael found 15 root and tooth pieces left in his mouth. I have it all documented. Another fortune to remove what Massapequa Hospital left inside his mouth. Which had been causing more pain and suffering for my poor Harry. 15 pieces . They took 4 sets of X-rays . They never saw any thing . Maybe they need a radiologist on staff to read their x rays . When I found out that they did not do the right thing for my cat I called and spoke to Dr Fish one of the owners . He offered me a tiny percentage of what my costs had been to make this go away. Sorry but my cats health is more important to me and to be honest they should have paid and reimbursed me for every cent I paid them since they did not do what I had paused them for and could have killed my cat . Harry has a long recovery and many more vet bills in the future . All because of Massapequa Hospital for Animals and the vets working there . I will make sure everyone knows about the care their pets get there . This is Harry before and after . Not the same handsome healthy cat at all . The best is that they have never even asked once how my Harry was doing . Not even an apology for almost killing my cat . Very bad veterinary practice . STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE .So I've used Massapequa Hospital for Animals for many years . I've spent a lot of money with them . We asked that we be allowed to come in to PRE-PAY for everything, because we knew it was going to be a horribly emotional evening. Their response? "You can't come flitting in and out of here like you own the place." Needless to say, we went elsewhere and will never set foot in that place again.
Response from Massapequa Hospital for Animals
"It is extremely difficult to comment on a review that relates to an incident over 13 years ago. I am, however, shocked and alarmed that one of our receptionists actually responded in that manner. As a point of information, none of our current nine receptionists were employed here in 2004. Therefore the person who allegedly told Ms. Graf that is no longer here. I can only ask the client to realize that although our receptionists do represent our practice on the phone, their comments should not be a reflection of the quality of the medical and surgical care that we have provided to the south shore communities of Long Island for over 65 years."

I have never felt the need to consider any other veterinary care. The office staff always answers the phone and does their best to fit you in the same day for illness. Just today I asked to bring Harley in for a rabies shot, and they accommodated my schedule, but advised me that it wasn't due until November. They will even submit insurance forms and fax them for you. Appointments for regular shots and appointments are easy to remember because they email you reminders and provide links for scheduling. Dr. Fish remembers my dogs and never rushes through an appointment. Treatments recommended have always been appropriate and balanced. The office is clean - as I am allergic to cats and have never had asthma problems after a visit.

The female vet (whose name I don't remember) gave my cat a full examine beyond the reason I came to the Hospital.

She laid out my options for dealing with the fall/limping. She ruled out a broken leg. We agreed not to x-ray as nothing was broken. She said it would take a while for the limping to heal.

She prescribed a mild pain killer.

She called me up that night to find out how my cat was doing. She also asked me to call her on Monday and let her know if the limping had lessened.

I have 3 cats and I will be using Massapequa Hospital for Animals for all of them.

The doctors and staff are knowledgeable and caring.  They are efficient, polite and the doctors make followup calls to see how the pets are doing after surgery or diagnosis.

They are amazing.  He was treated like he was the only patient.  My dog is doing even better than before he was sick.

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Fish for many years now. Dr. Fish is the nicest guy you could meet. He really
cares about you and your pet. We rescue animals in our spare time, so my husband and I really know our local Vets.
Furthermore, his staff is very pleasant. Regina is a personal favorite of mine. I recently lost my beautiful dog Olivia; Regina sat and consoled me as I cried... I truly felt that she cared. It's not just a business, they are true animal lovers.
I would definitely recommend Massapequa Hospital for Animals.

They're very caring. They're very nice. Very warm. Very professional and definitely you feel very comfortable bringing your animals there. Very clean. All the staff and doctors that work there are all very nice, very friendly, very professional. It's definitely the place I go because I'm comfortable bringing my animals there. Pricing is a little high but I know that I'm comfortable taking them to a place they are taken good care of.

The vet ran bloodwork in house, and took digital radiographs to try to find the cause of my cat's nausea. They got all the results very quickly and later that day had a specialist look at the radiographs as well. Everyone was very helpful and explained my options and the costs clearly. I was grateful that they were able to see my cat on such short notice and for staying in communication with me afterwards.

The first time I went to  Massapequa Hospital for animals was when I brought my 5 month old Labrador Retriever to Dr. Stan Fish. My pup went to Dr. Fish for all of her medical exams and surgeries. After she turned 12 yrs. old she developed many common Labrador illnesses, yet she lived comfortably to the ripe old age of 15 yrs. old with the excellent medical care I received from Dr. Stan Fish. Dr. Fish is a very experienced doctor and surgeon who will provide excellent medical care to any animal. Dr. Stan Fish presently provides medical care for two of my two year old Labs and I would not take them to any other doctor.
