Called Eric late evening-he actually answered the phone-thought I would just be leaving a message. I liked that he is available 24/7-unlike other computer people-who only work 8-5 (geez, computers break at odd times-they don't see the clock).
He did a remote access--took maybe 1/2 hr or so-and called me back. He wanted me to use the computer for a day or so and call him back and let him know how it all went.
My computer is a bit faster and my main problem--that internet explorer pop up is GONE!
"Thank you [member name removed] for that great review. It was my pleasure to have done it for you. I am glad that you are happy with your new computer. I look forward in helping you with any of your computer problems in the future."
The bad: When I asked for an estimate over the phone, no mention was made of what the service call fee was. ($160). This is a bit more than other A rated Angie's list businesses in the area. I should have challenged it but caveat emptor as they say. This is why I gave low grade on professionalism and overall. If a prospective client asks for an estimate, there should be full and clear disclosure to the consumer.
Specifically, sent message via Angie's Monday PM, reply was almost immediate, called and set appointment for next day. Technician was prompt, diagnosed the problem, attempted one fix (new network card) succeeded with second fix.
Reply to response: My memory of the phone call is as follows: When I asked for an estimate, you said it depends upon what needs to be done. While I cannot quote the exact conversation, part of it was and quot;if its a virus it would be $160. If it just needs a new network card I have many of those and iit would be free. While it may be partially my error for not asking further, the only $160 you mentioned was for the virus. Maybe you thought that was conveying the service charge but it did not to me. If you actually have a recording, please feel free to ask for my phone number and play it for me. If I am mistaken I will gladly (and humbly) amend my review.
After discussing this issue with Eric, I can honestly say that there was a rather clear (or unclear if you will) misunderstanding between us. He had initially thought I was a former customer of his and as such would be aware of his policies and therefore was not as explicit as he might have been with a totally new customer. Also, as he correctly pointed out, the information was in prior reviews which unfortunately I did not read thoroughly (my error which I will not repeat. I also wish to emphasize the work was quite professional and my only complaint, now withdrawn, concerned communication of policies.
"I am surprised to see this review about us. I do remember telling you the price for the repair and in fact we have the phone recordings to prove it. Secondly I told you to I can order a new internal network card for the computer you needed ( The PC is over 5 years old) it would cost more then the 85 dollars you paid for wireless network card. So to say you didn't get a great deal and service is purely wrong. I even explained to you if he wanted to me order the network card specific for the computer and your answer was " that is ok as long as it is working good" I am happy with it."
"Thank you for your kind words. We really tried to get your data off the hard drive but it just didn't happen due to mechanical failure. We hope to service all of your computer needs in the future. Thank you."
"We are so glad we were able to help you get your data off the old hard drive. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to fix your computer and we hope to do business with you in the future."
"Thanks for giving us the opportunity to fix your computer. We are glad you are happy and we hope to do business with you in the near future."

"Thank you for your business. It is our pleasure that you called us to fix your computer and we will continue to keep all of our customers happy one person at a time."
"we charge a flat rate and you never have to guess how much the bill will be. Infact we charge much less then any other company and we have over 5000 customers to prove it."
