We were fixing up/cleaning up our house to sell, and so had piles of shingles to throw away and so I looked Alpco up online (I'd driven by many times, but didn't know all the stuff they did.) Most places, we'd have to rent a dumpster for way too much money for the small amount we were dumping. (It was looking like a few hundred dollars for a dumpster).
Knowing they took scrap, I threw some old copper wires/pipe bits and other metal things in the van to drop off with all my junk, and I thought, literally I'd get a dollar or two for it, but it was better than throwing it in the trash.
End of story is that things went smoothly, people were very friendly ( they must train them to be nice, since it was sooo consistent).
Even when we had a few cars waiting to drop off and no one seemed to be around, an employee that mustn't have been the one on duty at that station popped up, was nice, and took over to keep us all moving.
AND on the way out the pay lady told me I had dumped a lot (shingles are crazy-heavy— 530 pounds!) and knocked 30% off... plus on dropping my scrap metal off (that's next door in the industrial looking area in the blue building), I almost totally broke even on the deal.
One thing that I wasn't sure about was that recycling drop off is totally free, so I'm glad I brought some overflow paper from our moving cleanup. They also took the little camping propane tanks I had, which I wasn't sure they would... they go in with recycling it turns out. They also take bottle return if you need. We've been frustrated with the Wegmans/BJ's automated machines, so this would be a good option.
Financially, I spent about $37 on dumping (for over 500 lbs... normal price was 10and cent;/lb).
I got about $34 for the scrap I almost pitched in my weekly garbage.
We did have to haul everything there compared to just getting a dumpster, but I thought the savings were worth it (if you are relatively close to Macedon and have a friend with a truck, etc).
I wanted to write this review, since I had no idea what they did, or that the scrap part was a way I could have been picking up a little money, rather than pitching everything with our weekly garbage after house projects, etc. Also, check out their , web site, as it explains things pretty well.

They did a great job delivering and picking up the dumpster. Said it was 5 cents a pound, but failed to mention there was a $200.00 drop off and pick up charge. They were willing to work with me in regards to pricing because there was a slight disagreement, but overall everything worked out just fine.

Alpco Recycling Inc is a metal - and other materials - recycling company. They delivered the Dumpster and then hauled it away. We emptied out our basement and our attics. The cost was 5c a pound, and we ended up having free pickup and delivery. We had filled it quite high, so the cost was around $200. They were very good about coming when they said they would, because we had a work crew here that was depending on their arrival on time. They also picked up on time, when they said they would come they were here. They were also very neat. They put boards down to protect our driveway and we were happy with the service.

First their pricing was much easier than any others because they only
charge for the weight you actually have. I got a forty yard roll off
which was delivered on time. It was more than I needed but the price
was the same no matter what size I received.
All the others wanted to give me a different price for each size of roll off which meant if I
didn't fill it, which I did not, I would still pay for a full container. And if by chance I didn't have a big enough container I would pay for a
second container.
Second the others had a time period that if you exceeded you would pay extra for each day. Although Alpco had a similar
policy they did not hold me to it. Of course I was using their service during a slow part of the year.
Third, Alpco charged an initial drop off fee of $200 then charged a per pound amount which came out to another $200. The others charged a higher fee and charged extra after you surpassed an initial weight.
Fourth,Alpco didn't have restrictions on what went in the container where as every one else did. One consistent ban was mattresses which I found odd.

They did a really good job and they were reasonably priced. They told me when they were coming and got here right on time. It turned out to be a really good decision. They charge $75 an hour and they were so quick. The room was filled with junk and it had a king size water bed in it and there were only two of them. They got it done in 2 hours and 15 minutes. They were very efficient and polite. I didn't need a dumpster and they took away all the heavy wood pieces. They will haul it all away if you want at around a nickel a pound. They will take credit cards, check or cash.

They arrived right on time, were very fast and the workers courteous. They even swept out the garage. Final bill was less than they had quoted over the phone. I was pleasantly surprised by their excellent service.
