I needed to replace an old IslandAire PTAC unit in my midtown co-op apartment. It made sense to check out Major since they specialize in this type of equipment. My initial call in was answered by Tony who was very knowledgeable offering possible solutions, checking for equipment availability, pricing and then booking an immediate service call. The service technicians were professional, friendly and punctual. I am a very happy cool camper enjoying the new PTAC that the folks at Major quickly, thoroughly and painlessly installed. I highly recommend them. Do yourself a favor and call Major when your PTAC goes kaput !

wanted to recommend Major Air (L.I.C.) as a reliable and honest AC repair for our through-wall AC units. This is the third time I've used them recently, and they always seem to be honest -- keeping to what the minor problem might be without over-blowing the failure, relatively low cost including the service call. My 2 previous repairs were in the $200 range. (e.g., a new cooler fan, a new capacitor), including the service call. My latest repair I first had another company (who sold us our Island-Air units 10 years ago). because Major Air couldn't respond in time before our vacation -- I suppose because of their quality reputation during this high heat summer. These other, unnamed people charged double for the visit, just touched the power buttons and said "total failure, need new unit". I rejected their suggestion (and a negative yelp review had them refunding the service call fee). I then patiently waited for Major Air and they tried a less expensive solution that didn't work (no charge) and then we agreed the compressor needed to be replaced (1/2 price of a new unit). While I despise the maintenance costs on my PTAC (through-wall) units that are required by my building, I find Major Air to be a pleasure and trustworthy company. I only gave a "B" to responsiveness because they are probably in such high demand with temps over 90 and due to their reputation. The service people are courteous and communicative, and their office staff are a pleasure.

They sent out two young men who checked out the old units and told me what we would need and that the office would be getting back to me with the price. The office didn't get back to me until I finally had to call about three or four times. Once I spoke to a gentleman named John who apologized profusely, we got back on track. The price was good, expensive, but worth it, as the units fit perfectly in the old cases, one, a black lacquer cover, which was built especially for the old bedroom unit. This saved us the cost of ripping both old covers out. I had another company come in before contacting Major Air, and their estimate the day the man came to look at the unit was higher because "they no longer make units to fit those cases." I would hire Major Air again, but hope they are a bit more on the ball when it comes to returning calls.

The workers and the service were fine. It was on the expensive side. They are very easy to get a hold of. The workers were fine. They kept me informed.

When two of my A/C units died and my building's superintendent declared them DOA, I began to look around for a reputable company. One company told me I needed to replace both units ($2,200 each). One company told me they could fix them, but I'd be better off replacing the units because the price would be too high. And then Major Air came. They jury-rigged one unit so that I could have a little A/C relief. They took the other to their shop and estimated $1,200 for repairs. When they returned with the unit they informed me that the original diagnosis had been wrong, and that the repairs had only cost $350. I was stunned. Then they took a look at the other unit - which two other contractors and my super had declared dead - and they fixed it on the spot! $425. I am thoroughly impressed with these guys. The final tab was $775 when other contractors were looking for $4,400.
