Roofing - put on two different color shingles and had no intention of telling me that he had gotten shingles from two different lots and that was why they didn't match. I only realized because I was at my neighbors house on a higher floor and saw the difference. He then wanted to take shingles of a detached garage that he had already done with shingles from the same lot and reuse them on the house instead of finding shingles that were from the same lot. Later made a big deal of how one of his guys was taking a long trip to get a matching lot of shingles but in the end they still did not match. They were a closer match than the first ones he had but they definitely were not from the same lot. The flashing was not done around 2 chimneys a skylight and a doghouse. There was also a 2 inch gap left around the entire edge of the doghouse where it met the roof. Around chimneys and anything on the roof the shingles were laid in all different directions. Nails were left sticking up all over the roof. The gutters were filled with debris and nails. I was able to fill a 5 gallon buckets with the crap that I flushed out of the gutters after I had already picked out the big chunks of debris that wouldn't fit the downspouts. Patio - The patio had to be redone three times. I had to finally give him the correct specifications for how a paver patio should be laid in order to get him to do it right. The paint job was also very poor. He tried to get away with 1 coat of paint which is impossible on stucco with a heavy texture. Eventually I wound up finishing the paint job myself. He only had a real painter there on one day and I never saw him again. He had someone who had no experience painting paint my doors with the oil base paint that I requested. I wound up having to sand both doors down to get rid of all the lumps of paint because only someone with experience knows how to use oil base paint. A 5 year old could have done a better job. Masonry staircase with stucco finish - The town shut the job down because first he had not filed for a permit, 2nd because he had not kept up his liability or workers compensation insurance. Eventually when the staircase was done he tried to pass of some skim coat of cement that was dabbed with a sponge as a match to the stucco on my 75 year old home. Not even close. I was able to use a power washer on a low setting with very little effort to take off the entire coat of whatever was used. Another contractor was brought in to do a real stucco job for which Mr. Groh was supposed to pay but I paid the $2000 and have not been reimbursed by Mr. Groh to this day. Aside from these not so minor problems, Mr. Groh is completely IRRESPONSIBLE, DECEITFUL, NEGLIGENT, & UNDEPENDABLE. I fired him once and gave him a second chance when he begged for it and said that he would be there doing all work himself. That was never the case when I gave him the second chance and he was fired for good because he always had an excuse why he couldn't show up. He does not respond to phone calls. I had to go to his home several times to contact him in order to get him to do things. Such as clean up huge piles of garbage he left all around my house at various times, most of the time. I was always lied to about when someone was showing up. Most of the times it was many hours later than promised and several times no one showed up at all. He also likes to text everything and avoids phone calls. Probably because he knows there will always be a problem. If you leave a message with a problem the respectful thing to do is call a customer back. He avoids this and always tries to get away with texting. He also tries to laugh off everything that you have issues with. The one time I did raise my voice to him he started shouting at me and telling me I was crazy and that I needed to get hold of myself. He has too many personal problems that he has to tell you about to try to gain sympathy and he doesn't know how to run a business. The people working for him were changing constantly and the two people that did quality work only lasted a couple of days. I don't blame them because I don't think he was paying them on time. I have pictures of all of this if anyone needs proof of this incompetence. The best I can tell you is that I can't imagine any contractor being worse than this man. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. NOT EVEN FOR THE SMALLEST JOB. I wouldn't even hire him to take out the garbage.
