At first, they were prompt and responsive and did quality work. They quoted their rates in advance, and negotiated each Winter's plowing terms in the Fall (typically, Contract or Pay-as-you-go.) Gradually, they stopped informing me of their charges in advance. I liked them and did not complain about this, even though I had no advance notice of the Plowing fee, or the cost of clean-ups, etc.. However, in the last year their performance has changed, and I am more inclined to want a more businesslike relationship going forward: The snow plowers only get about 3 feet from the garage doors and the post box. I have to shovel the rest myself. (I am 72) Also, they have not always plowed often enough in a day to meet their "never over 2 inches" promise. Since the Plowing was not planned-out with them in the Fall, I had no ability to negotiate exactly what would be plowed, where. They have not actually planned and negotiated a Season rate prior to the Winter for several years. Instead, i get a bill in the Spring for the amount they have decided upon. Meanwhile, I call every time the plowing is a problem for us. They seem to be growing fast, and their new people make mistakes, perhaps because they are not adequately told by experienced supervisors how to do things here. For instance, the lawn clean-up crew dumped all the leaves and debris from a Fall clean-up in a planted, naturalized field, instead of on the pile in the pasture they have used for years. The result is a dead forsythia this Spring where the leaves were piled. Their lawn mowers miss places in the grass, or miss the fact that their mowers have cut to uneven lengths. It's seems they don't even evaluate the effect of their mowing, in order to be sure they are creating a smooth lawn. So, the lawn doesn't look good even after it has just been cut! I do not so much need the grass CUT. I need it to look good. Proper cutting makes it look good. What they are doing lately leaves it looking just about as bad, only shorter! Most importantly, I have been trying to contact someone in charge for weeks (Shawn), to discuss possibly modifying the area they cut in order to save money. I do not even know what their rate will be this Summer. No one has called me back except a foreman about some mulching I need. I am starting to fell ignored and unvalued. So, I am going to put this work on a professional basis and seek bids for our Grounds maintenance needs.
