We had them move 25 items 2.5 miles down the road. Everything was taken apart prior to them coming and it some how took 6.5 hours to load and unload truck. The one worker took many smoke and phone breaks. He would move one item and then sit and hang out for 10-15 mins Between. I have everything on my ring camera for proof. I tried reaching out to the owners and have been ignored for 2 weeks

As a whole, the move was handled incredibly unprofessionally, starting with the company's packer (who was to pack china cabinet) cancelling on me the week before to the arrival of only two men to start the job, an inexperienced crew, disregard for both homes (floors, walls, etc.), failure to properly wrap and protect furniture and rugs. Mover was contracted to load on one day and deliver the next. The loading day took more than 12 hours due to inefficient management, at the end of which I was pressured into signing off on the hours without opportunity to discuss with the owner. (For instance, I was asked to sign an 8:30 starting time even though it was 9:30 because of “travel time.” It does not take an hour to drive from Liverpool to Fayetteville.) Instead of delivering the entire load the next day, the company delivered one truck a day over three days (charging an overtime rate, when delivery occurred during normal business hours) and demanding payment each day in a clear attempt to extort higher payment for service, which forced us to incur additional expenses for hotel and dog sitting ($150) as well as loss of work. Meanwhile, the owner of the company would not answer calls. Delivery of main moving truck only happened after I was able to contact someone at the NYS Department of Transportation, who intervened on our behalf. Meanwhile, our furniture was badly mishandled and incurred substantial damage. We are also missing items, such as the shelves to our china cabinet and 12 place settings of china (which the mover packed, charging me for the time and supplies). My phone calls have gone unanswered. DO NOT HIRE. Moving is hard enough when it goes smoothly.

Biggest snowstorm of the year. Expected Jeff and Dayna call to cancel. They did not. Jeff was right on the money when he quoted the amount of time it would take to complete from start to finish. We had no choice to reschedule as it was an all or nothing. Either he and his crew helped us or my daughter and I with my 5 yr old granddaughter in tow would have moved piece by piece. Excellent customer service. I expected Jeff and his team to call it at 9:00 PM as most businesses would have but they did not. As exhausted as we all were they did not give up on us. My review is a little late but important. I was looking to write a review on my gutter guys who did a fantastic job and saw that my awesome mover earned a poor review. Guess you can't please everyone. Moving sucks period. If you're trying to cheap out on what the company offers maybe you should rent a truck and have your own people do your dirty work. Living with an antique hoarder who thought everything he owned was valuable, junk is junk. We understood that we would have to participate and understood that we needed help. We were willing to let the company do what they do best. Some people have trouble letting go of control and remembering that professionals might have a greater idea of the process. So, you get what you give. If you exude gratitude and patience you'll have a great experience. Don't go to Burger King with your own bun and cup for soda and expect a pleasant experience.

Great. They did it within the estimated time, in spite of having to move a big sectional couch with a hide-a-bed that had been left in back room of old house into the living room, probably because their movers could not figure out how to get it out of there. Jeff figured out how to move it without damaging or dismantling any doorways. Guys were respectful and professional. Very happy with their work.

The first time we had everything packed and they just had to load/unload. The second time, they assisted in packing. Both times they were very efficient, and thorough - much quicker and careful than the other company we had tried before. The workers were very friendly and considerate and tried their best to keep things clean even with the rain and leaves from autumn. We had packing materials, but they brought some of their own just in case and did a very good job. We will definitely hire them again if we need movers. Maybe because we had a good idea of what was actually being moved, but every time the owner had a good estimate of how many guys and hours were needed. I don't remember going over time once.

The move went well. Because my move was 'squeezed' into their schedule, the move didn't happen until late in the day. That was my fault, not their's. Once the movers did arrive, they were professional and very efficient. I would definitely use them again.

PROs: 1. Friendly staff (dispatcher + movers)! 2. Helpful movers (had good suggestions for how to tackle the move AND organize storage unit). 3. Careful movers As a business, many of our items were worth FAR more than typical household items. And, the items were awkward or difficult to move, yet the movers handled everything perfectly w/no damage to the items or our facility. 4. Movers provided extra labor (loading old pallets on moving truck) The movers worked HARD for 4.5 hours w/ no complaints. 5. Easy to pay! (we used a commercial AmEx to pay for service + tip) CONs: Two things that could use a bit of improvement. 1. Communication Initial replies were not always the most prompt & required follow-ups from me to get what I needed. Confirmation of my email communication would be helpful & alleviate most issues. It seemed like there was a comm disconnect between the dispatcher, movers, and myself. (did not seem like the movers knew when they were supposed to arrive) Would be helpful if movers had my phone # & I had theirs (i.e. when they did not show at expected arrival time, it was not the easiest to contact them) 2. Timeliness Dispatcher was aware of arrival time (verbally & email), yet movers arrived about 45 min later than expected. Movers were not apologetic about being late, so I'm not sure they knew they were supposed to arrive earlier. As a result, it pushed out the end time. Neither of these CONs were big show-stoppers, but (if improved) would help create a more professional image for the business. Given the overall positive experience, I would use them again AND highly recommend to others.

The move was a nightmare, which ultimately cost us more than double what we had planned on. To add further insult to injury, a lot of damage was done inside and outside of the home we sold. The buyers ended up taking back $2,000.00 to cover damage to the septic system. Jeff had assured us he would cover it, but that didn't happen. Do not use this mover!
Response from Square Deal Moving
"[Member Name Removed] told us exactly where to park. There was an impression in the grass, but no damage to the septic system. We demonstrated that to my insurer. [Member Name Removed]withheld the fact that there was a dye test for the plumbing less than 24 hours prior, where they ran the hot water wide open for 2 hours- Which water logged the ground underneath. Had he mentioned that, or told us to park in any other location, there would have been no issue. [Member Name Removed} blamed me for the new potential owners not going through with the sale. Larry's lawyer told me the holdup had nothing to do with me, Square Deal or even the yard for that matter. I spoke to the buyer to give him my insurance info incase of any issues on this matter, and he was unaware of any problems until I told him about it. It seems there were some fabrications:("

Move was scheduled for 11 am the workers showed up exactly on time, all the furniture was carefully padded to make sure nothing breaks, quote was honored perfectly. About a month later we needed a TV to be delivered to our new house, called Jeff again and scheduled a delivery for the next day. The TV arrived on time and without any damage. Would definitely recommend and use them again.

"First there is no such thing as a 20' POD. "PODS" have cubes, 12', and 16's. If they really moved in with 2 actual PODS I would have fit that in my truck with room to spare without breaking a sweat. Just Google the cubic capacities of both, it's easy math. Second, I would never work for these people again. Third, I have never demanded instrument specific (cash) payment. Fourth I anticipated they might not be able to take some of the items themselves, and even brought a 16" trailer, in addition to truck Fifth, we continued AND FINISHED into late hours, at their insistence and demand and still we are vilified"

Charged 140$/hour, which I agreed to. Wanted to move a small 1 bedroom apartment. Showed up late. Came with 3 guys. We were all packed and ready to go. I had moved the apartment previously myself in under 2 hours, but because of wrist surgery, I couldn't lift the heavy stuff myself. From the start, it was apparent the job was going to take way more than 2 hours, as I was told it would take 4 hours when they arrived. And by the way they were going about loading the truck , I could see why. Took their sweet time . It was so bad that I started to load the truck as well. When we got to the destination, 10 minutes away, my son and I helped unload the truck to get within the 2 hour time limit. Then, when the time came to pay the bill, I was informed that ther would be a 1 hour travel time charge of 140$. Not ever discussed when I was hiring them. So, not only did I move half the stuff myself, they whacked me with a hidden charge. Never again. Bad choice on my part. Today my wrist is killing me and I am out over 350$ fir a job my son and I did half of. Stay away
Response from Square Deal Moving
"Yes, it's true, he ordered 2 men for two hours and insisted to Dayna over the phone that it would take no more, and as soon as I got there I did a soft count and used a laser measure and advised him immediately, that there was no way the job could be completed with 2 men in snow and ice in winter, with an 83 foot long carry, and stairs, and well over 100 items in less than 2 hours. And he had no concern for my time or the next customer who was waiting for us. P.S. the destination also had stairs and we could not get the truck within 75 feet of the common entry door to the building, let alone his son's apt door. And I don't why it says Ogdensburg, because I think Ogdensburg might be about the only place we haven't been as of recently. And there's no hidden charge, ever. Our rates are filed and published with The State and NYS tariff Bureau and charged in strict accordance with the law. We don't make those rules, we simply abide by them. He simply refused to pay us for our time, period, He cheated us, end of story. A contractor I think he vaguely identified himself as."

The guys are likeable enough, they packed things pretty well.

They came with straps and wrapping materials.

One problem, they don't have a truck so that's not included here in cost. The truck we got had a lift gate and no ramp, a lift gate is super slow, don't get a truck with only a lift gate.

The first day was very unorganized with no leadership. The owner showed up once in awhile to check, he was mostly on the phone.

The second day I had to tell them that it has to be finished by the end of the day. This was not my job I don't feel, we as a whole were fairly unhappy with them. (Happy to finally be moved)

We've used other movers in the past, as a reference I'd say there's pretty big differences in movers. The guys we wanted could have done this in one day.

They did end up doing some damage to newly refinished hardwood floors which we weren't happy about.

They didn't offer anything for damages.
Response from Square Deal Moving
"This review came as a bit of a surprise. We were unaware they were unhappy in any way. Had the shipper told us we scuffed their floor, we would have repaired it on the spot or referred them to our insurance company as we have a million dollar General Liability Certificate. In 6 years, this has happened once before, and that shipper was justly compensated by our insurance company. Second we do have our own truck, and it is Commercially insured and covers any commercial Motor Vehicle we drive as is required by law in order to be a licensed Carrier in NYS. This includes leased vehicles. Finally I should mention that the end of August is every movers busiest time of year and it is a very chaotic time. Our license permits us to perform more than one job at a time and the owner (Jeff) personally performs, or is at some point present, throughout nearly every single move. In the end we want every customer to be happy and had we known there was any dissatisfaction, we would would have accommodated them accordingly. We are dissatisfied that they had any dissatisfaction of any kind."

I called like on a Monday and spoke with a very knowledgable young lady and asked if they could provide moving services at short notice as we had just received a closing date and would have to move out in 5 days. She said they would be able to accommodate us. I was one very happy person and after explaining the details of what had to be moved she gave us an option of pay by the hour or by weight, we went by the hour plus the cost of materials. My wife and I packed most things up prior to the move.
There was a mix up on start time but after a call to Jeff he and his crew was there and ready to roll. The crew was young but I must say they were the best bunch of young men I've seen. Very disciplined to everything that Jeff (the owner) had to say.
This was a whole house move 3 stories of furniture plus a full garage. It was non-stop except for time out for lunch which was not included in the charges. There were a couple of dents but nothing worth mentioning here. It took 2 trips (5 miles one way) a total of 13 hours. Jeff and his crew left about 12:15 am
Jeff figured our cost based on 4 men not 5 due to the mix up on the start time which was pretty great thing to do.
All I can say is this is one great moving company and the people who run it are wonderful.
I highly recommend them.

This was the smoothest and easiest move ever!  I contacted Square Deal Moving yesterday afternoon, and the table was moved this afternoon.  Jeff was extremely responsive, and after we worked out the details and logistics in couple of brief phone conversations, Jeff moved the table himself, both in an effort to accommodate my schedule and to keep the cost low. Jeff did an excellent job dismantling the table and had it moved to his truck in a matter of minutes. I am now a huge fan of Square Deal Moving and would not hesitate a moment to hire them again.

It went great.  Jeff was available on short notice to pick up the bed and lift.  Before they could set up the bed in my house, they had to move the computer table to the garage, move the existing bed to the den.  The hospital bed was a tight squeeze, but they figured out how to do it.  Everything was set up and working. I would definitely use Square Deal Moving again.

I contacted Square Deal Moving  on 4/28/15. I spoke with Dayna. I told her that my son and daughter-in-law were moving from Camillus to Fairmount at the end of April (did not have an exact date at that time). I told her that there were about 10 pieces of furniture, and several boxes and bags to be moved.

Dayna advised me that the rate is $140.00/hr, and she thought that the move might be accomplished in about 3 hrs. She also advised me that there would be 3 movers for the job. She also stated that because my son is a Vetran, a military  discount would be offered.

When the moving date was confirmed, my son contacted Dayna with the date (4/28/15). He was then contacted by Square

Deal Moving (Jeff). They discussed the items to be moved, and the expected arrival time on 4/28/15.

The movers did arrive at the appointed time(10:00am) They brought a 16ft Penske Truck, which they felt would be adequate for the move. IT WAS NOT!. The furniture was wrapped and loaded correctly, but the truck was clearly not large enough for all the contents. So...., a second trip from Camillus to Fairmount was necessary.

At the completion of the move, (6hrs) I was presented a bill for $840.00. Needless to say, I was shocked at the amount. I was charged for 2 roundtrip moves, and travel time as well.  The military discount that was offered; I was charged for 2 movers, instead of 3! It should be noted, that both my son and I worked along side the movers, the entire day. Therefore, we had 5 movers, 2 of whom were not paid!!

My husband contacted Square Deal moving the next day, and spoke to Dayna. He discussed the bill with her, and told her that we were very unhappy with the amount. She advised my husband that she would contact the movers and someone would get back to us within 24 hrs.

On 4/30/15,Jeff, the supervisor of the move, contacted my husband and discussed the bill with him. He was unwilling to adjust the bill in any way.

We will never use this company again, nor will we ever recommend them to anyone else!

Response from Square Deal Moving
"Well, it seems no good deed goes unpunished . The people we moved were the grown children of the Angie's List members who hired and paid us. The grown children's home lacked proper plumbing and sanitation (this was one of the reasons they were moving out. Also, they reported this as a 2 bedroom home, but when we arrived it was clearly a 4 bedroom. No maybe or grey area about it. It was literally a detached, single family, 4 bedroom house in a barely accessible back yard, (the home was down a narrow driveway in the backyard of the main house). Barely accessible because my 26' truck has a clearance of 13'1". The power line was just barely over 11 feet. 11 feet may be legal on private property, but in general utility lines are recommended to be between 14 and 18 feet from the ground. This is a common risk that all professional movers encounter, deal with and manage daily without incident. Our experience and skill saved the home, it saved the power lines, it saved risk of injury. It was our basic due diligence. We owed them no less. And despite the poor sanitation we endured, we completed the job. Despite that they asked us to move a fecal matter covered dining chair, a chair which had a broken leg. THEY WANTED TO SAVE IT. Their sofa had to be hoisted from a side deck because the stairway was too narrow (way less than 61" tread to header). 61" being the modern building standard, and the interior thresh-hold was less than 32" and was immediately obstructed upon entry with less than a 96" ceiling. The general order of the home reminded me of a TV show I've seen on A&E but I forget the name.. I've tried my best here to simply respond with facts and subdue my passions and opinions. By definition facts are statements that can be proven or dis-proven. Most of the facts I've shared here are provable with basic elementary school math and common sense observation."

This is the second time using Square Deal. I am very impressed. Two strong and pleasant men showed up on time and helped me unload a truck I rented that was full of heavy furniture.
