The warranty was for 12 months, so it was out of warranty. The repair would cost $300 for the part + labor. It total, it would be as much as we paid for the washer a little over one year ago. I was furious that an appliance, seemingly durable, like a washing machine would totally fail in such a short time.
In the past, washers had a basic one-year warranty on the whole machine and a 3-5 year warranty on the motor and transmission because they were built to be durable. Apparently that is no longer the case with Whirlpool. I emailed and called Whirlpool in Michigan and they refused to even provide the part, saying "The unit is too far out of warranty for any assistance" THREE MONTHS!!! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER WHIRLPOOL APPLIANCE (or Maytag or Kitchenaid which are also made by Whirlpool)State Contractor License Requirements
