BEST CLEANERS

I complained several times about wrinkled shirts and they happily redid them, but the problems continued and seemed to get worse.  Finally I spoke to Jim, who manages all of the area Best Cleaners.  He was very apologetic and was extremely accommodating. He asked me to bring in all of the shirts that had come back wrinkled or damaged.  I brought him 10 shirts which he was  personally going to have redone. Unbelievably, some came back with the same issues, just wrinkled in a different place.  He took them back again, and dropped the redo's at my home and I gave him 7 more to redo.   I believe that Jim tried his best to resolve the issues, but in the end, we did not feel confident that we would not have further problems so will not be going back to Best Cleaners.

The dry cleaning was fine.  I have not used them for anything delicate or specialty; just my work clothes which are Coldwater Creek type.
The hemming was a disaster.  I had them hem one pair of pants a couple of months ago and then two pairs of pants (one dress and one good jeans) a few weeks ago.  I have not yet worn the jeans as they're too heavy.  I wore the pants twice.  The second time the hem on one leg unraveled.  the dress pants I had hemmed a couple of months ago I have worn perhaps half a dozen times.  One pant leg unraveled.
I brought them in to discuss.  Since we have been bringing all of our dry cleaning to them - which admittedly is not a huge amount, but they're the only ones we use in Guilderland - I didn't expect that there would be an issue at all.  
The woman first looked at the pants when I told her about the hems (dark blue and black) and complained that they were covered in cat hair.  That was true - when I saw they needed repair, I left them out and my cat laid on them.
I told her that was not why I was there; I did not want them cleaned.  She told me the seamstress would not work on them with all that hair.  I told her no problem, I'd clean them off prior to bringing them back.  All I wanted to do was to show her the hems and have her tell me - what I expected - that they'd be repaired at no charge.  
She called her boss and told me that IF I had the pants dry cleaned they would fix the hems no charge.  Otherwise they would not.  I told her they didn't need to be cleaned; that I would get all the hair off of them and they'd be fine when I brought them in.  These pants wash beautifully at home.  She spoke to the owner who wanted to know how long ago they were done.  They checked their records, and the date was apx 2 1/2 to 3 weeks prior.  He said he wouldn't do it at no charge since it was more than 2 weeks.
I said it was ridiculous to expect a hem to only last 2 weeks; hems should last a year or years.  As an aside, I wear flats or low heeled shoes, not spikes, since I need to walk a lot on my job.  I also told them that if they wouldn't make good on the work they did, they would lose us as a customer and that they were welcome to call to discuss.
I have not hear from them, and am bringing my tailoring to Santo's Tailors, also in Guilderland, who is just excellent.  I only went to Best because they are next to my bank and I didn't think hemming pants was a complicated job.
I saw another reviewer spoke of a similar experience of the owner refusing to take responsibility for work not performed well, and I wish I had checked first.  
I went to 5 New Karner Road in Guilderland.  However, my assumption is it's the same owner regardless of location.

They basically destroyed a full-length designer skirt by shrinking it six or seven inches and then had the chutzpah to claim they had never heard of such a thing. To make matters worse, they claimed they were going to "research" the problem and get back to me. They never did. At one point, they even tried to suggest that I was mistaken about the original length, as if, with my vast array of skirts, I might have gotten dizzy and confused. It was an utterly fatuous response... made worse by their refusal to offer me even the sop of an apology. In fact, they were still going to charge me, even after I pointed out that they'd destroyed the skirt, until my protests overwhelmed them.

Don't take anything of importance to this cleaner. But if you do, please don't say I didn't warn you when it's returned to you in ruins.

They are very good. They are a little pricey but they basically do next day service for everything. They also do alterations but I've never used them for that. They seem pretty busy with the alterations. They are excellent. I will absolutely continue using them.
