I had called McMillen Electric for an estimate. After my sixth phone call, the owner finally called me back. The owner showed up late for the appointment and then told me he only had 5 minutes for me because he had another job to go to. Two weeks passed and I had not heard a thing from him. I had to call him twice to check on the estimate. When he finally called me back, he only had "part" of the estimate ready and needed 4 more days to figure out the rest. I grew tired of waiting for him and called him back to let him know that I was using a different electrical company. Within one hour, he called me back to tell me that he was sending me a bill for $58 for the estimate fee. When I told him that he never mentioned any estimate fee prior to this, he then told me that he has never had to give a customer an estimate because his customers always use him and never ask for other estimates. When I asked him why he did not tell me about an "estimate fee" upfront, he said that he shouldn't have to. Sounds like a hidden fee to me!!!! He spent 10 minutes with me at my house and then billed me for 60 minutes of work. The other 50 minutes was "conferring" with NYSEG (our electrical supplier) regarding the only part of the estimate he had ready for me. He could only tell me how much the new underground service cable was going to cost, which I already new because on the NYSEG website, they tell you exactly how much it costs per foot.
Description of Work: I wanted an estimate to increase our electrical service from 60 amps to 200 amps, relocate the electrical meter and to bury the overhead service cable in the back yard. (I had already dug the trench)
