BUSCAGLIA DECKS

Crew cracked concrete porch adjacent to deck project by using a heavy piece of machinery during removal of old deck. Initially the new deck looked good (except for several poorly filled screw holes), but I soon started having problems with snapping and popping from expansion and contraction of deck materials. I learned from the Eon deck website that Eon decking expands and contracts far more than wood decking, and as a result there are special installation requirements. The contractor did not follow the manufacturer requirements. I had trouble getting them to come back out (they were verbally abusive), but they eventually did solve the problem. I also learned from the Eon website that there were products that could have been used to make this a better deck (e.g., bullnose boards for step edges). In the time since the deck was installed I have found that screws used in the deck are rusting and nails rather than bolts were used to attach the deck to the house.
