I wish there had been a review on this company somewhere when I was looking into them before agreeing to allow them to do the work at my house. So I hope this helps someone. I had to work with JMG Heating & Air Conditioning to replace our furnace as part of our Home Warranty Program (JMG was in their network). I wanted to use a private contractor who was referred to me by other contractors I know and trust but the warranty company wouldn't approve his quote. JMG was responsive. One of the owners who worked on the furnace brought me a space heater the night before to warm the upstairs a little. The day they got the approval, Joe called me and asked me what kind of furnace I wanted. I said I didn't know and asked for pricing. I couldn't ask my husband as he is away on active military duty and I couldn't get him by phone at that time. I couldn't call anyone else I knew to ask - he said he was at the store right then and needed to know what to buy so he could get to my house and start working since it was already later than they would have liked to get started. He named a few the warranty company would pay for but said they were not high efficiency and would not be eligible for the rebate through the gas company. He went through some high efficiencies and what kind of rebate they were eligible for. One of the furnaces he said was a good furnace, high efficiency and we could actually make money after what our insurance would cover and the rebate. Then he recommended one he personally has and a few other high efficiencies. I asked him to repeat the one I could potentially make $ back again. He said that one wasn't eligible for the max rebate, only the one he had himself was. I told him to go ahead and buy that one. After he got to my house and he and his workers had it almost completely installed, he came up to go through the rebate paperwork and said, "You know, the best deal would've been the one where you would've made money on, it turns out that one is eligible for the max rebate after all." I didn't even know what to say, and I didn't say anything - the furnace was almost completely installed. So I ended up with a significant amount of money out of pocket that I didn't have to spend. Additionally, once it hit 5pm, and they weren't done yet, he complained multiple times about how much money he was losing because now he has to pay his workers overtime. I noticed they started rushing and one of the workers was getting really frustrated. He said not to worry about his frustration - I told him if his frustration and rushing messed up my new furnace, I would flip. I then heard him say (as the 2 workers were doing the electrical panel), "What are you doing? Blue goes with blue, green goes with green..." Then as they were testing the furnace to see if it would switch into high flame, one of the workers was getting frustrated again and said he was going to take the cover off to hotwire it - Joe yelled, "No!" They waited a little longer. High flame still didn't kick in and when it was safe, the worker took the panel off and found that the setting was wrong. Joe looked at me and said they were still getting used to where everything is, they had only installed 4 before this one. His worker set it and then hot wired it to go straight into high flame so he didn't have to wait another 15 minutes for it to do it itself. They said it was working fine. They cleaned up. I went back into the room a few minutes later and said I smelled gas. They said, "No, there's no gas, we stopped smelling gas as soon as we connected everything." So I thought it might be residual and let it go. I asked if they had checked the gas pipe from the meter to the laundry room like they were supposed to. Joe said they clocked the meter twice, it didn't move so there's no leak. They left. The kids and I went to bed. I smelled the burn off really strong in our rooms so I turned the thermostat down so the furnace wouldn't kick on as much. Around 2am, we were all awakened by a loud, "BANG!" It sounded like something really big fell. I looked all over and nothing was out of place. I looked outside and nothing. When we got up, I smelled gas from the middle of my staircase. I called the gas company - the gas guy smelled it as soon as he walked in and asked me to take him to it. He detected a significant amount of gas coming from the union on the pipe to the furnace. He had to give it two large cranks to tighten it. They had not tightened the union after they finished to installation and that was the gas I was smelling. The gas guy asked me to turn the thermostat up so the furnace would kick on. I did and nothing. He asked where the breaker was. I took him to it and he said it was tripped. He flipped it on, came back in and there was no power whatsoever coming in. He said something was really wrong with the electrical and I would have to call and have the contractor come back out. I did and he came back out. He said he watched his worker tighten the union. I told him what I heard him say about the wires the night before. He said that had to do with something else they were testing or working on that requires two people and nothing was wrong with the electrical. He asked me if the gas guy hit the power switch to the side of it, maybe that caused it. I told him no, he wasn't close enough to hit it. It turns out, a fuse blew in the furnace which is why it wouldn't work. He changed the fuses and replaced the switch. I asked about the loud BANG and if it could be related somehow, he said no, he had no idea what that could have been. He then tried to tell me that they did test the gas pipe - they soaped it when it was clocking and saw nothing (some of the pipe runs under a large soffit, you can't soap that). It was scary - especially with two kids. I do not recommend them.
