Because they have such a great reputation both on here and by word of mouth, I called when a leak created problems in my living room after this last harsh winter. When I described the problem, I was told it sounded like typical ice dam issues and that I should have my gutters looked into and that I didn't need roof work. I didn't entirely disagree with needing work on the gutters, so I tried that first. While that has resolved some issues, my leak is back and possibly a little worse because the original problem I believed I had was not resolved. I called back to see about repair and was told it would be a 4-6 week wait. I understand that. But when I asked about the service, I was told that they "don't do estimates" they just show up and do the work and that it's "$65 per man per hour plus materials." I'd pay the price but not under those conditions. I'll be calling Monday to get off the wait list and pursue another company.
UPDATE to response:
No ice damming. Not bashing: Said you had a great reputation, still believe it, chose to call based on it, agreed to try what you recommended, understood your wait list and chose not to pursue work without an estimate. Saw in another review response that you don't like to work on someone else's install, which I also understand and now know. Mine was done by the previous homeowner, so no company to call. Peace.
"We do not do estimates for repair work. We never did any work for you so this review is really just because you didn't get the answers you wanted when you called. We apologize this time of year especially after a heavy rain our repair schedule fills up very quickly. Our customers where we have installed new roofs get top priority. We would recommend calling whoever installed your roof because you should have some sort of labor warranty. Don't beat our company up because you had ice damming issues last winter."
"[Member Name Removed] we specialize in installing new roofs. We stay away from repairing roofs that were not installed by us because as soon as we show up and touch the roof we are taking responsibility for someone else's work. As far as paying the workers off the books and not carrying insurance this is simply not true. This review is very misleading being we never installed a roof for you. You called us to repair your roof that you had someone else install. My recommendation would be to call them to stand behind their work as my family has been doing for over 75 years for homeowners in the Hudson Valley."
"[Member name removed] we are sorry that you had this experience. We specialize in sloped roofing, specifically installing new roofs that we can warranty. We would recommend contacting the company that installed the roof originally if they are still in business."
"This women is the daughter of the customer. [member name removed] called to blackmail us to send her $700 to cover the cost of the chimney which was installed after the metal roof was complete. Our company was in no way responsible for the snow sliding off the roof and damaging a chimney that was installed after our contracted roof work was complete. This review has nothing to do with the work we were contracted to do which was install a new metal roof. We believe in karma at J&A Roofing and [member name removed] your untruthful and damaging review will come back to you ten fold."
