They didn't fix my problem and they charged a lot of money. I wouldn't go back to them. I have a drain in my basement that supposedly a year prior they had cleaned out and said it was good. I had them come back and they charged me $400 and told me it couldn't be done because there was too much stone and sediment down there. I paid them for getting nothing done. Maybe they've done right by other people, but I don't have a lot of money to spend and then not having anything done. They were responsive, they came when I called them.

They overcharged. They took advantage of the situation. The water was running back down into the basement and it was raining. It was a really rainy spring and my basement was flooding and that was the whole point of getting the basement waterproofed. So they overcharged.

I called to make sure they would still be able to come and the receptionist said they would be able to make it, even though it was after 6 pm. I have never had my pipes freeze so I was unsure what to expect or do but I knew the basics of opening my cupboards and under the sink, applying space heaters there and under the crawl space.
They did work for a long time by applying heat under the crawl space and trying to determine where the freeze was. A fire started under our crawl space. The two men were heard laughing and swearing, which I understand it had been a long day but I offered hot drinks and tried to be understanding. I give a B for responsiveness because the call center was quick to respond and I was not put on hold.
The two workers were unsuccessful and needed payment right away of 500. I do not have an extensive amount of cash even though I work fulltime to support my family. I was hoping to make payments and was surprised by the price.
The company did refund me 150 after I explained that the price seemed high considering the problem was not fixed. I ended up staying with my parents for 3 months until the pipes unfroze then had a family member come and repair the pipes that burst. The plus side is that I had the chance to remodel the bathroom while I stayed with my parents.
Overall, I wish they had come sooner or told me it was not worth it to try and fix the problem or given me a general estimate, but I did gain valuable experience and I am glad I have angie's list now.

I had a plumbing project to do at my house, went to turn off the main water supply to the house only to find that the main shut off did not close completely. Consequently I still had a small amount of water coming thru the pipes. I Could not do the repair without the water completely shut off. Called TJ's plumbing and Heating because I had used them one other time a couple of years ago and was very satisfied with there plumbing work. Next morning they sent out two men to replace my old shut off with a knew one and had the city inspector come in to inspect, as required in such situations involving the main shut off to the house. Seems TJ's has a good working relationship with the city as I surmised from their conversation and interaction. Was very satisfied with the work done and they were very helpful in offering information on the in home project that I was going to work on. Expect to make payment for work done on the spot which I wasnt expecting and gave them a credit card payment.

My problem took place late at night and I did not who to call. I called this company because they advertised 24-hour service. There is no way my furnace could have been dirty because the furnace was practically new. They were prompt and everything, but I don't think the tech really knew what he was doing. He really did not do anything, I have never heard of anybody dusting the inside of a furnace. They were here right away.

Dates are fuzzy.  TJ recommended subcontractor in addition to the work they did.    Whole experience was a bit of a nightmare and between what I personally paid and what my insurance contributed total cost was closer to $30,000 for what started as a minor wet spot in rec room after a big rain.

It didn't go well.  The lead tech was a little rude and smart mouthed, mangy looking and not very intelligent.  His partner never said much, just observed.  They poked and prodded around a bit.  The problem was not corrected and I heard one say to the other "Well, it runs good enough".  They demanded payment right then & there, and left.  After they left, I listened to the furnace do it's double cycle thing a few more times before I called TJ's and complained that they did not fix the problem. They sent out 1 tech the next day, a different one from the day before.  He listened, poked & prodded, and came up with a prognosis that my gas feed line wasn't grounded and was sending voltage through the furnace, thus causing the problem.  He left, and I called an electrician to check this out.  There wasn't any grounding problem on the gas line, as the steel line comes out of the ground for one, and was ground strapped to the water line.  So it seems this tech just buffaloed me.  It turned out to be a problem with the thermostat.  Needless to say, I've switched plumbing /heating companies.

I went to my cottage to open it for the season in early April--turn on the water, fill the hot water tank, etc.--and discovered a leak under the house.  TJ Plumbing came to the cottage on a Sat. afternoon and took care of everything in a pleasant and professional manner. The fellows made sure that the problem under the house was taken care of and checked the bathroom, kitchen and laundry area for any possible problems there as well. It was discovered that there was no real water pressure and upon inspection of the well it was determined that the pressure gauge was malfunctioning. They suggested I replace it but I was certain my brother-in-law could take care of it and sent them on their way.  My brother-n-law informed me I was crazy and to call TJ back and have them take care of the well issues.  So, the following Tuesday TJ Plumbing returned and fixed the gauge and the air pressure tank. It was water logged and when it was removed the entire bottom was nearly rusted through. They again went through the house to be sure there were no other issues with the plumbing. Both crews were very knowledgeable, very professional, very helpful. I would definitely use TJ Plumbing again.  For the two visits, the total bill was just a tad over $1300 and I thought that a very fair price. Had I not had to have weekend help the bill would have been less, but that's just how it goes. I was grateful they did 24/7 service.

Horrible. They tore my heater apart, they lied about the heat exchanger having cracks, they lied about the carbon monoxide level. They quoted me a price that was 4 times what another company would to replace a furnace of the same brand. They tried to take advantage of me. They knew how to get out of a court battle. They are crafty. I had to hire another company to fix my heater, they found no cracks in my heat exchanger, and there was no carbon monoxide leaking out of my furnace. I bought an ADT alarm with a Carbon monoxide detector which is in my basement by the furnace, It has never gone off. Seems funny how TJ's said I had a lethal dose of carbon monoxide leaking when the detector never goes off. Buyer beware. Then I was harrassed everyday by mail and phone calls asking me if they could send another technician to check the other technicians work. They sent two before. How many technicians do they need to send? I even talked to the owner TJ himself and it was worthless. He denied everything. He said his technicians do no wrong. They are perfect.  I received twenty certified letters from them. I never opened any of them, I wouldn't sign for them either. Then they called about 3 times a day. After I had my attorney send them a letter it finally stopped. I think its terrible how they take advantage of consumers, they put TV commercials on with kids on them I think to lure consumers into calling them. Stay far far away from them or you'll be out thousands of dollars.
Response from TJ's Plumbing & Heating Inc
"We were contacted by (Member name removed) to do a clean & check on his and his mother's furnaces. Upon inspection of the unit, our technicians found three cracks in his heat exchanger. The above normal reading on the carbon monoxide detector was noted directly on the invoice as 4-8 ppm. We follow the National Fuel gas code of NYS, Appendix D (IFGS). If it is determined that there is a condition that could result in unsafe operation, the appliance should be shut off and the owner advised of the unsafe condition. This is exactly what we did. When (Member name removed) called, we offered to send a supervisor to look over the job; if in fact it was determined that there were no safety issues, we would reassemble the disabled unit and make it operational again. We also told Mr. (Member name removed) that if we were in error, we would refund his money. We backed our offer up with three letters to Mr. (Member name removed) which he refused. Mr. (Member name removed) called our office threatening to take up to court if we sent him another letter. He claims to have had another company from Erie, PA come and look at his furnace and declared it perfectly safe to run. He has yet to provide us with the documentation from the other company that we red-flagged his unit in error. Our goal is customer satisfaction. We are committed to the safety and protection of our customers. We may have to tell them something they may not want to hear or we could make a mistake, but our goal is to keep them safe in their homes, and we take that seriously."
