We had selected Joe Miller because a few years ago he had converted a sunroom for us and we had been pleased with his work then. This job was of a different nature, and I also enlisted Builders Best to help with design, etc. Joe was always incredibly professional--with me, my husband, and with Phylis at Builders Best. If he was going to be late (which was rare) he always informed me, and when there were and quot;surprisesand quot; unearthed during the renovation (as there always are), Joe always explained the reason for having to approach a problem a certain way and how he was going to address that problem. He also let us know if these and quot;surprisesand quot; were going to add to the cost (they did, but minimally, all things considered). We were actually quite pleased that so many shortcuts from the original 1960s builder were going to be rectified--things we had lived with since we bought the house 12 years ago, but had not known were either a danger (electrical) or an inconvenience (poorly draining tub) until the place was stripped and there for Joe to see.
I was also very pleased that every day Joe had cleaned up so well after his workday--there was minimal and quot;spilloverand quot; into the other living areas of the construction dust, etc. He always laid down rugs and floor coverings from the outside door to the bathroom, so that when he had to track in and out nothing would damage our floors. He was also very careful to protect our new vinyl flooring, for example, in the bathroom while he was still working in there.
At the almost-final walkthrough, I noted a couple small places that had been overlooked (paint), and a couple other things, and several Joe remarked upon before I had even brought them up and said what he still needed to do. I would highly recommend Miller Brothers, and when we have future work done, will certainly keep him in mind, if it's within the scope of what the company does.

They did a great job on both. We wanted the work done quickly since we were just moving into the house and didn't want a and quot;climbableand quot; deck with our two little kids. They came just when we wanted them to come and finished the work quickly (2 days). The shower job was a small one, but they did it well. The deck looks great.
They were extremely professional and I found them to be very pleasant in all my interactions with them. I've already asked for estimates on two other jobs and would absolutely use them again the future.

Contractor performed sub standard work, had many screws popped in drywall, screws not covered with joint compound, joints in drywall that were sloppily covered and sloppy painting and trim work. Also had problems with outlets that allowed outside air to pour in through the back of the outlet. Contractor was to install a subfloor and vinyl flooring product in our mud room, which he assured us that he knew what he was doing, this floor five weeks later, now has staples coming up through the vinyl. Called contractor to fix this problem and he told me to contact his lawyer, he would not fix the problem. This has rendered our lifetime warranty on the high quality Congoleum flooring product useless. He further stated that this was the type of job that I had paid for. This contractor stated in our negotiations that our satisfaction with the job was of utmost importance, and that he would stand by his work and correct any issues, even going so far as offering a warranty on the work and then refunding this warranty one day after being notified of this problem with the floor that he was contracted to install. I would steer clear of this individual as his business practices are not truthful or ethical. UPDATE as of 02/23/11, Mr Miller continues to bend the truth wherever possible. His comment that they suggested going to a raised floor was dismissed by both parties as being impractical, due to the fact that the overall floor plan to the room would have to be changed drastically. His suggestion that we put a raised floor in would have had us going outside of our house to gain access to our basement. The agreement he speaks of was jointly accepted by both parties at the time of signing and he assured us he knew what he was doing by installing this type of floor stating, and I quote, "I am a general contractor and I know how to install this type of floor". We were never pleased with his work, most of it was barely acceptable, with him stating "that we paid for the type of work we received", which included staples coming through the floor, screws visible(not covered with joint compound) in the drywall, screws popping out of the drywall, damage to the interior foundation due to his insistence on removing a stair, sloppy joint coverage, sloppy and missed paint, and missing pieces of lumber that were our personal property and not subject to use by him. This contractor is very poor, and he is right, we were pleased to get rid of him. I would not recommend him to anyone.
Response from MILLER BROTHERS HOME IMPROVEMENT,LLC

"They were very pleased with the renovation of their kitchen and mudroom when we completed it. They paid us promptly and sent us photos of their beautiful new kitchen for publication on our website. Six weeks after completion of the project, he contacted me with a concern and I responded immediately. He was worried about a hypothetical future problem that could be caused by a flooring staple that punctured the vinyl flooring in his mudroom between the washing machine and the closet wall. There was no other issue with the floor. I assured him that there was no real problem, but he insisted that I take the floor apart immediately to find out why the staple had penetrated the vinyl. In designing the mudroom, my professional advice to them was to install a raised floor in the mudroom at the level of kitchen floor to alleviate any potential for future issues. However, they insisted on having the floor installed at ground level over the old concrete of the garage. The enclosed agreement shows his writing where he crossed out my proposal and wrote in “NO RAISED FLOOR”. My brother and I have made every attempt to satisfy them despite the fact that they have ignored most of our professional advice. Their insistence on having the floor installed directly over the old garage floor may well affect the performance of the floor. I explained this clearly to him. We cannot be held responsible for any possible future issue that may arise from their insistence on a problematic design. He is looking for money for damage to his vinyl floor in the closet of his mudroom-damage that cannot be"accurately visualized" (his words). He is demanding $1500-$2000. We have already sent him a check for $300-more than he paid for the flooring. Joseph Miller-Partner"
