"Actually it was the inquirer who was curt, who wanted pricing for an appraisal but would was not forthcoming. After a considerable amount of time on the phone trying to learn about the property in question, it turned out to be a complex assignment for a large dwelling on a large waterfront lot. He was told that it would take some research before quoting a fee but it would likely be in the $600 range. At this point, he stated that he had a quote for $275. At this point I wished him well hung up. I do not negotiate on the phone before I knew what is involved nor is that professional. Having already wasted a large chunk of time on the phone, it was obvious that this would be a very trying client. I guarantee that whoever quoted him $275 was not given the property details that I eventually elicited. RE Appraisers must legally follow Uniform Standards and Practices and the first step in any appraisal process is to develop a Scope of Work. This cannot be done unless the client is forthcoming. Appraisals are legal documents subject to NY State laws and licensing is very strict. We are not licensed to debate and pricing is not from a menu but is based on the complexity of the assignment. Sorry that the person in question was not interested in listening to what is involved. One last thing, it was a male, not a female, who called and would not identify himself. The person writing the review never spoke to this office."
