The job took this contractor 5 days. I had painted these rooms in the past myself and it didn't take that long, and I'm a not a professional painter. He was charging by the day, which I normally will not agree to, but he was the relative of a friend. I thought I could trust him to do a day's work. I was at work each day excepT the last. He did not put in full days, as verified by the surveillance cameras in my apartment building. He painted wires sayiing that they looked better that way. He painted a plastic intercom with flat wall paint stating that it had been dull looking (who paints plastic with flat wall paint). He removed all switch and outlet plates which is a good thing, but he never put them back stating that he didn't have a screwdriver, although he said he did construction, and anyway, how did he get them off. I suggested that he might have asked me for a screwdriver. He was sloppy, getting paint on objects in the rooms and on the walls in a room outside of those being painted. He broke a bookcase when he insisted on moving it with the books in it, in spite of my request that he wait until I emptied it of books. That was the last day and he was, apparently, in a hurry to leave. On that same day, i was, in fact, home. He arrived late with the excuse that he knew I'd be home that day, so he wanted to let me sleep. i was still paying by the day. Four hours later he was finished and leaving. I had work other than painting planned for him -- screwing a desktop to its supports and hanging a television. These both seemed like daunting tasks to him although he claimed to do construction. He said I would need to pay for an assistant to help him with the desk, and he ignored the TV entirely. Instead, my son screwed the desktop on in 5 minutes and he hung the TV, and he is not a contractor.
Description of Work: Interior painting two rooms (13X20 and 10X10), no closets, and no ceilings. I paid for the paint in addition to the $1400 for labor.
