This company is horrible to deal with. I was using them for oil and I have a alarm system that I am locked into. They canceled my oil contact stating I don't use enough oil and think that I am getting oil from a different company which is not true and then the alarm system that never work that I'm stuck laying for is another story. If your looking for a good company don't use them shop around their customer service also suck.

When Slomins tells you how much to opt out of the contract, you'll regret getting trapped in a 5-year contract with them almost 5k to opt out from contract with them very expensive mistake DO NOT use Slomin's as your Security company.

FYI, Slomin’s does not monitor online status, that is your job. Our alarm was offline for several months in the past and they kept telling me everything was fine until I insisted we do a test, so when the app stopped working this time, I knew to call. The customer service team dose not know how to fix alarms so there is 0 trouble shooting over the phone. We basically had to wait a week for someone to come out and reset the box that connects to our router (unplug and plug back in, this took 40 minutes for him to figure out). Funny thing is when I asked about resetting it on the phone I was told no. Anyway, we have had the alarm for about 18 months and we have been down/offline for about 6 of the 18 months. I wish they would just let me out of my contract. Also, their system is extremely limited. If you are looking for a high tech/smart home system, Slomin’s is not for you. Half the features we were shown during the sales presentation don’t really work. They will also have people come to your house to sell oil even though you have gas and you have asked them to stop dozens of times.

Back in 2003, Slomins Alarm Co. installed an alarm in my first new home. They drilled through my dining room window to install the wires to the magnets. 14 years later, I notice water beginning to puddle on my window sill and leak under the radiator directly below it. After ripping out the sheetrock (5/8), I realized the water has been leaking all this time, and rotted my entire wall; studs, insulation, and plywood on outside of the wall behind the siding. Not to mention the amount of mold that grew back there. God only knows what health effects that has had on my kids all along since we eat in the dining room every day, multiple times a day. Furthermore, I was supposed to have a manager come by to inspect the damage and hopefully make good on at least some of the damage. To add insult to injury, I called to get a status update at noon since I hadn’t received the text they were going to send when they were on their way. They tell me they called, no one answered and my voicemail was full. Nice lie on top of this; last time I used a cell phone, missed calls are registered, plus my voicemail is empty. Why not send a text like they originally said they would and reiterated when rescheduling?? On top of this, I was generously offered free security cameras 2 yrs ago because I was a customer for so long if I signed a 5 year contract. They sold me on how it’s motion activated and will record who comes to my door. Problem is they only record for 12 sec (I believe) which wouldn’t even capture someone getting to my front door. What good are the recording cameras if I can’t see if someone is trying to break in????? I cancelled the cameras because they didn’t provide the service I was looking for or promised. But they wouldn’t budge on the 5 year contract. Now I am locked in with a company that has ruined my home right before thanksgiving, refuses to take ownership, and lies on top things after putting my family at risk with mold all these years I might be a one off, but if the risk is worth it, their method of making good on their mistakes certainly isn’t.

I used Slomin's Home Security years back and they were a good company. They didn't contact me, they don't even advertise as much as they used to when they started out, they use word of mouth to keep the sales coming. The guys who work for them, have been working with them for 15-20 years. I knew how good their service was and that is why I chose them. They gave me detailed information and the technician came out to the installation.

Do not sign a contract with this company!   They do not explain that their initial cost is low because they sign you up for a five year period and if you terminate they charge you 3 times your remaining fees.    They are also very hard to communicate with, they do not show up for scheduled appointments and do not stand behind their contracts.

The sales call and install were fine. The monitoring acceptable. What you need to watch out for with Slomins is that they are a "slick" company. The monitoring is $30.25 per month or $90.75 a quarter. Then they will try to stick on a monthly maintenance charge from the first bill. Since the system comes with a 1 year warranty and service contrract there should be no maintenance the first year. They will add it on anyway and if you question it will tell you that you are paying for the next year maintenance up front. I caught them on this and told them to remove the maintenance and if I decided that I wanted it I would call them back the next year. Never saw a maintenance charge again that first year and never called to have them add it so just set up automatic payments.
Come a couple years down the line and I happen to catch one month that the bill is high. I log into the account and check the invoices and there is the maintenance I told them to remove. Check back the 18 months of available statements that are online and I find out that they have been charging me maintenance as far back as I can see. I call up customer service and they say they have no record of me calling in, ever, let alone to have the maintenance removed. I said that someone needs to review the account because they can see from the payments the first year that the maintenance was removed. I was told that would have to be reviewed by a supervisor and that they would get back to me. Wait 2 weeks and get no response. Call several times and try to reach custmoer service but had to wait on hold too long. Finally got thru to someone during the day and spoke to the "supervisor". He had my full account in front of him and insisted that no one ever requested the maintenance to be removed. I asked what his ledger showed that I paid for service the first year. He said 4 payments of $90.75. I asked if the company policy was to charge maintenance a year in advance and he replied yes. I asked why I had not paid maintenance the first year and he had no answer for that question. I asked who authorized maintenance to be added if it was not there the first year. No answer. I then asked for all the maintenance charges that were unauthorized to be credited to the account. He said that he would only credit the charges for this year. I asked why they would not credit all the charges and he said I need to catch the charges earlier and that was my fault. I told the supervisor that I would not do business with a company that would treat their customers this way and that I wanted the account cancelled based on the unauthorized charges. I told him I would pay out my contract on monitoring charges but nothing else. He said he would process the cancellation and send me a cancellation letter. I have been credited 2 of the unauthorized charges. That was 3 weeks ago and nothing else yet. I really do not expect anything at this point. When they send the next bill I will call them back again where I am sure that the runaround will start all over again.
Moral of this story- shame on me for trusting the security company I hired to protect me to be honest. Also, shame on them for charging their customers unauthorized fees. Shame on them for not returning customer calls. Shame on them for lack of caring for the people thay are supposed to protect.

Not sure how good they are.... the first time I called them with something to do (reactivate the alarm)... it could not be done and I have to start as if I have no alarm at all.

They are an average alarm company. They call right away when the alarm goes off. If you need service, it may take a week or so.

These people are idiots. If you decide to go with them, you better pray that the install goes well, and you don't have any need to contact them for the duration of your contract.  They are famous for saying "Someone will call you back" and then you get to wait around for (you guessed it) NO ONE to call you back. Ever. Something else that would have been nice to know is that their ONLY service appointments are M-F with the latest being at 2pm.  Maybe if you are unemployed, under house arrest, and like it when people are extremely rude to you, this service would suit you. If not, go with someone else- ANYONE else.

They replaced the alarm sensors so the cats wouldn't set them off. They went off constantly, even after the company sent technicians out multiple times and told us that the problem was fixed. We have been billed for multiple false alarms by the city because we tried using the alarm each time we were told it was fixed. Slomin's originally told us that they would reimburse us for the cost of the false alarms since it was their fault for not fixing the alarm when they said they would, but now claims they did not say that and do not do that. We now are paying for an alarm system that we cannot use and waiting for the contract to end. I begged them to let us cancel the contract since the system is unusable, but they will not. Taking over this contract was the worst mistake of my life. Now we are spending money on an alarm we can't use, fines from the city, a phone line we put in just for the alarm, and spent hours on the phone and waiting for multiple repairs, none of which helped. What a waste of money. DO NOT USE SLOMIN'S! Slomin's response contains false information. The motion detector was not fixed on 9/4/10 and has gone off several times since, causing us to pay false alarm fees to Baltimore City. The system is unusable because we cannot afford to pay any more false alarm fees. And we would not have been charged for the door problem if we hadn't already had SEVERAL false alarms from faulty motion detectors that we kept being told were fixed, but kept going off anyway. All I want is to cancel my account, but they won't do it without charging us, even though they have not provided us with a usable alarm.
Response from Slomin's Inc
"Providing reliable and low cost home security has been a Slomin's hallmark since 1981. Slomin's takes its responsibilities to its customers very seriously and endeavors to achieve superior customer relations. In June 2009, the member assumed the remaining months of the sixty month agreement Slomin's had with the previous homeowner. Slomin's does acknowledge she had some issues with the motion detector which were resolved with a service call on 9/4/09. Since that time the two signals we received were not from the motion detectors. The member called customer service in February and told us that the December signal was from the front door not being closed properly. (See attached) Slomin's has always cooperated with agencies in resolving matters that come to our attention and we are open to your suggestion in this matter. Since system is working under normal parameters Slomin's does not feel reimbursement is warranted. In lieu of canceling the account (which would incur a fee of $406.00 for remaining 14 months of agreement) Slomin's would like to schedule a service call reassure the member the alarm system is working properly. As a sign of good faith Slomin's would credit the account $50.00 after the service call. Sincerely, Emile Theodate Customer Service Manager"

Slomin's Security is horrible to deal with, terribly unresponsive; it's hard to get anyone on the phone who has authority to do anything. They are just too big to care, and are not friendly, nice, or helpful. They don't seem to care about their customers at all. It never was a good experience. I had to wait 5 years to get out from the contract, and inertia had me staying two years longer until another frustrating service call had me finally saying goodbye. I want to find a good local company because Slomin's has me convinced that national alarm companies may be a mistake.

They are awful. We consistently had problems. We had a lot of false alarms with them and we get fined when it goes off. They couldn't tell us why it was happening. The wiring that they put in for the alarm wasn't grounded. They unplugged my freezer and I lost a lot of products. I tried to report it to the company a dozen times. They keep sending me bills.
